Obituary of Margaret Sawatsky

Margaret Sawatsky (nee Penner)
November 21, 1932 to August 14, 2021

Mom passed away peacefully in the morning on August 14 in St. Paul's Hospital.  She was born to Wilhelm and Elizabeth Penner on November 21, 1932. Mom was born in Dalmeny, Saskatchewan on the family farm.  She left the farm at the age of 18 and moved to Saskatoon.  She worked at St. Paul's Hospital in housekeeping for a couple of years.  She met Peter Sawatsky, and was married on June 21, 1954.  She was a stay at home mom, always there for us for whatever we needed.  Her greatest love was her family, whom she would do anything for.  Mom loved to visit with her family, often calling them on a daily basis.  She was interested in the events of all of her extended families lives. We spent many years travelling to various lakes in Western Canada along with other family members.  In 1971 they built a cabin at Sturgeon Lake where great times were had by all, fishing, swimming and boating.  In later years she worked for the Quaker Oats, and after that for Prairie Living property management along with my dad.  After dad passed, she continued working for Prairie Living for several years.

Our heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and nurses at St. Paul's Hospital 6th floor Medicine for their compassion and care in her final weeks and days.

Mom is survived by her daughter Lana (Glen) Kenney; grandchild Daniel (Steven); daughter-in-law Lisa and grandchild Shawna (Ted); sister Helen and brother John;  and in-laws Mary, Johnny, Sue, Anne, Gerald, Agnes, Rick, Vivian and Ethel.  She is predeceased by her husband Peter; her son Lyndon and grandchild Michael as well as brothers Art, Pete, Bill, and Hank; sisters Net, Anna, and Elizabeth and in-laws Ike, Mona, Eileen, Ed, George, Henry, Elma, and Margaret.

At her request there will be a graveside service at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, on Wednesday, August 18 at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Children's Wish Foundation would be appreciated.
