Cousin Jim and Family,
The news of your father’s passing was difficult and filled us here with sadness. Although we knew in part of his recent health troubles, Uncle Ron has been such a family pillar that the possibility of him departing seemed remote.
Uncle Ron was always ready with a kind smile and friendly conversation; this impression built since childhood remained constant for the 45 years I was able to enjoy his company. He taught me log cabin fire-making at the lake when I was about 6, and gifted me a 1964 double-edged safety razor when I was closer to 36. Whether over an A&W burger, waiting for a steak on the barbeque, or sipping a rum and coke, he could chat about just about anything – from hockey to custom knife making to obscure (at least to 11-year-old-me) firearms.
I always had the feeling, one that became clear over the years around the dinner table or campfire, that Uncle Ron cared for people from his heart, with a genuine respect that extended to all family and friends. He will be missed by all.
With fond memories, the next rum and coke will be in his memory.
