Bernice Pasmeny

With deepest love we say goodbye to Bernice Barbara Pasmeny – our wife, mother, grandmother who passed away on May 11th, 2021 in Edmonton.
Bernice is survived by her husband Jack, and their children Katherine Lynn (Boyd) McKay and Matthew and Michelle McKay; Steven (Monica Ercolessi) Pasmeny and Jacob Pasmeny; Erica (Allan) Florizone and Erik (fiancé Iya Dvornikova), Jeremy, Evan and Douglas Florizone.

We want to say how much we all love you, miss you, and how grateful we are that we had you in our lives. We will always remember your warmth, love, guidance, humor, wisdom, and abundant energy and strength. We know your children and grandchildren were your “reason to be”.  You were always interested, supportive and encouraging in all our activities, classes, projects, etc. and were immensely proud of all our accomplishments. Although you weren’t a water person, you enjoyed hours of riding “spot” when we water-skied for hours in the years we had our cottage at Domremy Beach at Wakaw Lake.  You enjoyed going to various games as well as music festivals, year-end programs and graduations, which you then carried on with the grandchildren. When we came home for visits, you would always be thrilled to see us and would whip up great meals; your priority was always just to be together and share life in all its complexity. You had a gift of being able to meaningfully connect with your grandchildren through all the various ages and stages that life brings.  We all felt your unconditional love.

We remember how pleased you were to go back to University for a year to complete your B. Ed., thrilled you could go to campus with your two oldest children, who were then also at the U. of S.  Teaching for the Saskatoon Catholic Schools was fulfilling for you in many ways. You loved working with young children and always felt you were blessed with such great students. You enjoyed golfing, including the years with the Moon Lake Ladies, and those many long walks with friends. You started a successful home business, Prairie Heritage Cards, which was rather ground-breaking in its day.  You spent a few retirement years compiling a thorough genealogy record on both sides of the family. You credit your strong love of nature and appreciation of its beauty to growing up on your parents’ farm east of Marysburg. In your later years, you found great joy spending time with your various coffee groups and visits with friends, and as much time with your family as circumstances would allow.  Your zest for life, love of family and generosity of spirit will be with us always.

Bernice was predeceased by her father Isidor Puetz, her mother Catharine Mueller Puetz, and her stepmother Agnes Doppler Puetz, as well as several other family members. She has always been part of a large caring family with many aunts, uncles and cousins. Memories of time spent together remained talked about and cherished throughout her life.

For those so wishing, donations in memory can be made to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre, 20 Campus Drive, Saskatoon, SK, S7N 4H4, (306) 655-2662 or Saskatchewan Kinsmen Telemiracle, 2217C Hanselman Ct. Saskatoon, SK S7L 6A8.
