I knew Edna when I was just a kid living in Calgary in the 60's. Edna boarded in my parent's house for about ten years, so back then I'd see her every day. She worked as a cashier at Loblaws grocery store. When I was about age ten, I started collecting little discs that had pictures of airplanes. Much like a prize that you would find in popcorn, these little discs were found in boxes of Jello and in Nestle's Quick. There were 200 different ones to be collected, and Edna saw my enthusiasm, so started asking some of her grocery store customers to save the "airplane wheels" for her. She would bring a few home fairly often, and it was like a mini Christmas every time she would bring them. Mostly thanks to Edna, I collected the whole set, which I still have.
We stayed in touch by phone, maybe once or twice a year. She spoke fondly of her neighbour, her vacations, clients, and her cat.
