We were saddened to hear of Herb's passing. Our condolence to all of the family. We had a special visit with Herb and Gundrun when they came to London. We took a drive to see some cemetaries and ended up in Kirkton -Woodham area .where we located Murray Shier at his farm . Herb was excited to say the least.
We have fond memories of the family reunion in Colonsay which we attended many years ago.
We did call Herb one time but he had difficulty hearing and understanding who we were.
Thank you Joanne for sending us the obituary and Herb's special treats We will miss the yearly Christmas letters.
Keep safe and healthy.

Condolences to all the family. Herb was a great guy and will be missed. He was a doer. I remember one afternoon at the Credit Union, when Herb was standing on the sidewalk just out front. He was looking at the water that had built up after a rain. Well before you knew it he had gotten a shovel and was digging a trench. After Herb was unable to work bingos I recall a number of the regulate workers asking where was Herb. He had become a fixture.
I’m sure he is still organizing things and helping out.

Bob and Debi Coffin : To the family and friends of Herb Shier, please accept our deepest condolences on his passing. "A life well lived" would be an apt description of Herb's time with us. He was generous in so many ways to his friends and community. Giving was in his nature, whether through leadership, time commitment or monetary means. He was a treasure trove of memories of things he'd experienced during his many years. Always had a story to bring a chuckle to those nearby. Loved to socialize, loved music, loved to dance, loved his family and friends. He leaves us with so many memories, some permanent fixtures in the community and has enriched the lives of so many people. He joins a group of old Colonsay Monarch baseball, hockey players and Colonsay curlers who have gone before him. I remember the stories Herb and Les Rosher used to tell us about the players and the teams. Many a times it was at the curling or hockey rink, or the community hall for various social activities when I was growing up that I remember hearing these stories. In their later years mom and dad spent many enjoyable times with Herb and Gudrun at Preston Park 2, which could be renamed Little Colonsay due to all the residents who had lived in Colonsay or area which are now living in Preston Park 2.
I was lucky to have grown up in a community where people like Herb created opportunities for us to grow in and encouraged us to become the best we could be. He will be missed but he leaves us with many memories and legacies for future generations.
Thank you for " A life well lived" Herb, Rest in peace, you earned it.

Sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Shier family on Herb's passing. Although I grew up a half mile away, I considered him and called him Uncle Herb as well. I was fortunate to be included in the Shier families and have fond memories of spending time with them. Herb always had a smile and a hug for me whenever I saw him. No doubt he and Gudrun are dancing together again.

Hello my cousins from across the road. I know this is a tough day for you all. I want you to know how sincerely sorry I am that I will not be able to give you all a big, in person, hug today. I will be watching from Edmonton .
I think your Dad would get a kick out of starring in a live TV broadcast. Thankyou for making it possible for those of us who aren't there with you.
I have been thinking about how your parents and mine lived through so many incredible changes during their life time. When they were children, farming was mostly powered by horses and the old cutter that we all played in as kids was a regular mode of transportation, electricity was a luxury, and flying to Mars was only comic book fiction.
Your Dad has lived a great life and touched so many in his lifetime. His legacy will continue to support local children learning to skate and swim and much more because of his and many others' commitment to community.
Love and blessings to you all.

My most sincere condolences to the Shier family on the passing of a wonderful, sincere and kind man. My encounters with Herb at many Co-op meetings were always a true joy as we discussed matters for the betterment of Co-op, not always on the same page, but very respectful and and I always felt very enriched to have spent time with him. I was truly blessed to know Herb.
Rest in Peace, my friend.
