Gary Sherdahl

Obituary of Gary Clinton Sherdahl

On the evening of Friday, March 19th, 2021 at Stensrud Lodge, Gary Clinton Sherdahl passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Audrey; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Scott Zary and their two sons, Treyton and Connor Zary; son and daughter-in-law, Clint Sherdahl and Jaysea Franson and their daughter, Callie Sherdahl. He will also be missed and remembered by his sister, Diane Jenkin; brother, Dennis Sherdahl (Evelyn); and sister-in-law, Betty. He was predeceased by his parents, Emily and Gordon Sherdahl and his brother, Bill Sherdahl.

Gary was born in Meadowlake, Saskatchewan and then moved to Saskatoon shortly afterwards where he attended Pleasant Hill School and Saskatoon Tech Collegiate. He received his CMA accounting designation and worked as a Controller for many years at Domtar, Boychuk Construction and then Davies Electric.

Dad was a fighter. He was diagnosed with Polio when he was 14 years old, but he fought through the illness and persevered. Dad was passionate about his garden and even though it rarely amounted to a large haul for the family, he just loved being outside! There were a lot of vacations throughout Canada as Dad would only travel by car. He made sure to make numerous stops along the way to check out the roadside points of interest - even when they weren’t that interesting to the rest of his family! Clint and Kathleen can remember Dad always driving the car on vacations with Mom gripping the “Holy S--T” handle on the door. Dad also loved going to Brightsand Lake where he could spend time with all of his family.

There was nothing more special to him than spending time with his three grandchildren. He even quit working early as soon as his first grandchild came along. “Grandpa” Sherdahl spent as much time as he could with the three of them-especially when they were little.

We will always remember Dad for his honesty, his work ethic and his quiet demeanour. If you couldn’t find Dad you just had to look outside in the backyard and there he would be with his shirt off, his pants rolled up to his knees, a hat pulled down over his eyes, sitting in the full sunshine reading yet another novel.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to all the staff at Stensrud Lodge for their loving care and kindness during his nearly 8 years there.

Thanks COVID! Due to you, there will only be a private family service. All arrangements have been entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME (306-244-5577). Condolences may be left at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com.
