I am very sorry to hear of Joels passing.
I knew Joel for a long time. I met him when he was 20.
We worked at the Coachman in Marketmall together, wow 40 yrs ago.
I last saw him in Dec of 2000.
It was a shock to type his name in to facebook and find his obit.
Joel was really good for a lot of laugh. We hung out with Jackie and Mustache and had a blast.
We played cards, mostly canasta with other friends and lived together off and on for 5 yrs.
Joel will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.
R.I. P dear friend!

When I had nobody in my corner, this guy had my back. His money was no good in my bar. He was my best friend, and he will be missed.

It's funny on what you remember during times like these. I remember playing in the sand and water with Joel and my brother Kelly at Aunty's cabin at Wakaw Lake. Joel was always smiling and happy. Joel would always tease my dad (Ed) as a teenager when he came over to visit us when we lived on Jarvis Drive in Saskatoon. Joel got dad quite excited about something (jokingly) one time that dad started to run after Joel down the block. All you could hear was Joel laughing (as he did) with dad a half step behind him...we all couldn't stop laughing at both of them. Dad was fast but Joel was just a bit faster. Those were good times!
Rest in peace...

Jodi and boys;
I was sad to hear of Joel's passing. I have many memories of growing up together as cousins, and the times we spent together at the lake. May he rest in peace.

Let me start by introducing myself. Im Rose Cerniuk, daughter of Paul and Cindy Cerniuk, my mother is Julie Hyatts older sister. I grew up knowing him as "Uncle Scwig". When I was young, 1 or 2 he lived with my parents and I in St. Paul, Alberta. I remember him babysitting me and he was always ready to do whatever I thought up. I remember him sneaking me small amounts of pop and milkyway white chocolate bars. One time He made me cat whiskers out of a rubber band and paper to wear, and YES he had matching whiskers to wear with me.
Later in life when my parents and I had moved to Rosetown and Uncle back to Saskatoon, my dad and I would make regular city trips for shopping and movies and always stopped to visit his best friend.
I miss you Uncle Scwig, you will forever be in my heart ❤
