John Samuel McEwan was born in Saskatoon on May 17, 1945. He passed on March 7, 2021 at the age of 75 years. John was married to Marilynne, the love of his life for 52 years. John joined the Saskatoon Fire Department in February 1969. He spent 34 years as a firefighter and rose to the rank of Captain. He had many funny stories about the guys and lasting friendships. He organized a fishing trip with friends for 40 years. In his later years John worked for the Saskatoon Funeral Home. Friends were important to John and he collected them everywhere he went.
John was very creative and loved to build things. For many years he ran Eastview Construction with his father in law, Jim McDonald. They even built John and Marilynne's house in Lakeview. Later he had his own company, Sunshine Holdings. John was always building or fixing things in his children's houses or when Marilynne dreamed them up.
Family was very important to John. He loved to tease his nieces and nephews and grandkids by calling them by funny names or playing rummy championships. He was very involved in his children's lives offering great advice or calling to tell them Grandma got Run over by a Reindeer. He loved to joke and his family remember many funny stories. He loved to travel and went on many holidays and to Lower Fishing Lake at his cabin with his dog Lucy.
John will be missed by his numerous friends and family.
Survived by the love of his life, wife, Marilynne, daughters Heather McEwan (Kelly Skuce), Kerrie Rutherford (Scott), son Brad McEwan (Melissa), Grandchildren; Will and Sean Skuce, Grace and Gabriella Rutherford, Celeste, Avery, Natalie and Sam McEwan and his sister, Rose Magus (John) . John was predeceased by his parents Annie and Sam McEwan, Jim and Kay McDonald and sister Valerie Nyssen.
A Life Celebration for John will be livestreamed and will take place on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 3:00 p.m
