Obituary of Anne Wilde
Anne Rodda Wilde
1922 – 2021
It is with heavy hearts and much sadness we announce the passing of Anne Rodda Wilde ( nee Alexiuk) late of Saskatoon, Brunkild and ST. Vital, MB on February 25, 2021. She was predeceased by her first husband Arthur Rodda in 1966 and her second husband William Wilde in 2002, daughter-in-law Penny Rodda and stepson Floyd Wilde.
Anne is survived by her son Richard Rodda( Janice) and her daughter Dianne Wilde ( Gord Holloway), daughter-in-law Sarah Joseph, and sister Marie. Her grandchildren include Erin ( Nathan) Goddard, Chris
(Andrea) Rodda, Scott Wilde, Shawna Wilde, Shane ( Val) Wilde, Brooke ( Jason) Cordy and great grandchildren Kellen, Finley, Owen and Norah, Chandler, Brynn, Maddie, Grayson, Lucas, Cadence, and Ethan.
Her parents Nicolas and Zoika Alexiuk came to Canada from the village Mikhalkiv, district of Chernievitz in the state of Bukovina in the South Western Ukraine. They sailed on the SS Bulgaria, a cattle boat during May 1903 arriving in June at Halifax, NS at what is now historically referred to as Pier 21. Upon arrival her parents sailed from Halifax to Montreal and then took the train to Winnipeg, MB. From there it was an ox - drawn wagon that took her parents and their three eldest children to Sundown, MB. Anne was the last of 14 children born to Nicolas and Zoika arriving on July 5, 1922 born at home on the farm. Her father and mother passed away in 1950 and 1958, respectively.
Anne grew up during the roaring twenties and the great depression. These historical societal events had a tremendous impact on Anne’s view on life which included having fun, working hard and being mindful of the needs of others. She completed Grade 11 and then moved into Winnipeg to find work. She worked at the Bijou Theatre selling tickets and ushered, and waitressed at a local Chinese café. She worked at the Film Exchange as a film inspector splicing and fixing film that needed repair. During the “60’s she worked at the Fort Garry Hotel and recalled meeting many famous actors and actresses during that time.
Anne met Art and fell in love. Before he went off to join the RCAF he proposed. Upon his return they married and raised two children while living on Regal Ave. in Winnipeg. Art worked for CN as an engineer and as an engineer trainer. It was while he worked for CN that he died suddenly and it broke Anne’s heart.
She met Bill Wilde a few years later and returned to her farming roots. She helped with the harvest preparing meals for the field, drove the grain truck as the crop was taken off, collected eggs from the chicken barn and prepared them for the market. Upon retirement, she and Bill spent many winters in Indio, CA. She enjoyed many pursuits including leading the pool aerobics, playing cards with friends, hosting potlucks, and picking dates.
She moved to Saskatoon in June 2008 and resided at Luther Riverside Terrace until September 2020 whereupon, due to failing health moved to a private care home to live out the last few months of her life.
Mom was a kind and gentle person. She developed a sense of curiosity, read a lot, and contributed to her grandchildren and great grandchildren playtimes. Mom enjoyed Sunday dinners at her son’s home where she could get her potatoes as “hot” as she wished. She knitted over 400 toques for the babies at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at RUH and enjoyed feeding the birds in the backyard at Luther and watching them eat.
In keeping with Anne’s wishes cremation has occurred. Internment will follow at St. Vital Cemetery, Winnipeg, MB., at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Saskatoon or Winnipeg Salvation Army.
