Obituary of Arnold Weimer

Arnold “Arnie” Weimer

Arnold “Arnie” Weimer was born on August 20th, 1929 in Pangman, SK to parents Frank and Katherine (nee Baber) Weimer and passed away on January 29th, 2021 at the age of 91.  He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Daniel; brothers, Fred, Bruno, John, Albert, Frank, Max and Harold and sisters, Elisie, Evelyn and Emma.  Arnie is survived by his wife Audrey of 72 years; his sister, Lorraine; sons, David (Jan), Gordon, Patrick (Debbie) and Paul (Lori); 8 grandchildren, Steven, Kelly, Alex, Stacey, Amanda, Zachary, Leigh and Ashley; 6 great grandchildren, Jack, Olivia, Oliver, Finn, Kennedy and Leah as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

During his life, Arnie and Audrey travelled extensively all throughout Canada and the USA including Alaska and Hawaii.  This included many trips to Las Vegas where sometimes friends would join them.  They also made one trip to England to visit relatives.  Arnie enjoyed spectator sports such as baseball, hockey and of course he was a true Rider fan, holding season tickets for many years.  He was a member of the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club and was involved in and hosted many golf tournaments over the years at other courses as well.  He also enjoyed hunting water fowl and upland game birds and fishing in northern Saskatchewan for decades with family and friends.  He enjoyed gardening and took a lot of pride in his garden at home.  Regular Sunday suppers and birthday celebrations and holiday festivities were very important to Arnie.  For over 25 years he and Audrey owned an all season cabin at Weyakwin Lake, where lots of lake traditions including New Years bonfires, fish fries, wiener roasts, collecting and cutting firewood and many a happy hour on the deck took place.  There was always a steady stream of family and friends visiting at the cabin.

As a career, Arnie was employed in commercial roofing as a young man until he was 35 and then he went into sales for commercial interiors.  Eventually he and two colleagues purchased Simpsons Commercial Interiors and Design which became Allied Contract Sales, until he retired and sold the business in May of 1992.  He was a member of the floor covering association; North Saskatoon Business Association and Saskatoon Construction Association.  Due to Covid a private family service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Extendicare Preston for the care they provided to Arnie in his final year, made especially difficult due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In lieu of flowers, his family asks those who knew him to raise a glass and think of a fond memory of or a special time shared with Arnie. The family is planning a celebration of Arnie’s life with good food and laughter, that he would have enjoyed when we can safely gather together again.
