On behalf of our family I extend deep gratitude for your support, compassion and care. It was deeply healing to share this tribute with our family and friends. The green symbolizes Rick (and Ali's) favourite colour, and the flame that which kept us in remembrance and appreciation of life, and of those who have gone before us. May life be filled with moments of deep joy, and most importantly, may you recognize them in gratitude. Silvia & Family.

What a beautiful memorial for a beautiful man. I have known Rick and Silvia my whole life. They are such an amazing powerhouse duo. I have amazing childhood memories of Rick at his cottage teaching me how to waterski. His life is a celebration of wonderful memories. Silvia I’m so sorry for tragic loss in your life. It brings me peace to know that Rick is now with Ali and they can hold each other. I pray that you find peace in his rest, free from all pain. All my love to you and Nicole. Rest in peace Rick. Love Alex and the Boaitey Family.

I met Rick when I was 15 years old. He was 16. We were too young, but we were surprisingly wise. We had a sense, an intuition that our friendship would not falter wherever our lives took us. We were right. It never did. We have been in touch on and off over these many years as our lives took us in different directions to different parts of this vast country. But whenever good fortune would have it that we could meet up in person, the conversation began something like: “Now what were we talking about.” It was always so easy, so comfortable, so rich, so engaging, so smart, so imaginative. I stood in awe of all that he had accomplished in his life. I remember so preciously when he first introduced me to Silvia. His eyes were absolutely sparkling. Every fibre in his body was vibrating with joy and hope. I was profoundly happy for him, for her. Their life together as I know it as has been resonant with love, commitment, hope, gratitude and bliss. Deep pain and loss have shadowed all of these but for Rick (and Silvia) these dark moments were met with courage, grace, dignity, and compassion. Such wisdom is part of the mystery and magic of life that they accepted. Rick was my oldest friend. I was his. Thank you Rick for all that you brought to my world and that of so many others. I am honoured to be able to call you someone dear to me. That will never falter. That is steadfast. In gratitude…

so sorry for your loss Sylvia & family! I have very fond memories of the good old days particularly @ North Star Pottery Humboldt when the many of us helped build that old church into a hub of art, community & too much fun. Of more recent, many visits with Rick @ his pal Jim Hodges' back zen garden where I will always remember Ricks courage, intelligence, love of humanity, the arts, his family & community. RIP Rick, you brought much laughter & wisdom to all those surrounding you. Sandi ledingham

Bellissima Silvia, Nicole & Family
I cannot express how my heart feels right now. These last few days.
It’s painful, it’s sad, it’s upsetting.I feel that this time to remember Rick and honour his life with respect and love has been stolen from me. My unfortunate accident preventing me from being present with you all is agonizing. As the day approaches I want nothing more than to run To be with all of you & remember Rick with a heartfelt embrace & love.
I want to share with you some of my memories of Rick and our friendship.
Rick was a very special and honourable husband to my life long friend Silvia, an amazing Father to Nicole and our beloved Allison, & my friend! He gave me so much support in all my challenges & roadblocks through the years.
Our long conversations when we spoke would lead me to think outside the box about new ways of dealing with the ups & downs of life. His advice and love always came through right to my heart. On my many visits to Saskatoon he would meet me at the airport together with Silvia. His smile & big Italian welcoming embrace was so wonderful!! It made me feel so special.
Our distance never kept us apart all these years. Whenever I spoke to Rick he was always present and understanding.
We have shared many happy times & losses through the years especially the loss of our beloved Allison (Alidear). It was unimaginable pain. We held hands with broken hearts & prayed for peace.
Couple of years ago I had the pleasure of having Rick to myself for one whole day( very rare lol).
We drove to some of the properties he was renovating and he shared what was taking place. He was such a visionary! So much was learned that day. We chatted about all the projects and how they were unfolding. He just lit up when I would ask questions. He was so proud and it was so inspirational it was to be in his company!
Just loved talking with him & learning from him. I have beautiful memories!
We then shared a beautiful lunch together at the art gallery in Saskatoon laughing and sharing memories of the past. It was so much fun !
We took a picture which I hold very dear to my heart.
Then we went to meet Silvia. It was a cold day & the ground was icy. Arm in arm we held on to each other and safely walked to the car . I looked at Rick with a little tear in my eye and said Rick thank you & I love you. He said it back.
That special moment I will hold very dear.
Rick, I will miss you my dear friend, you were and continue to be a very big star that will shine in my heart till the end of my time.
Be in Peace my friend and Rest.
Allison will hold your hand now.
Much Love to you Rick.
Your friend,
Jeanie

Such a beautiful, thoughtful, knowing, loving tribute, Silvia. It is an honour to read the story of an ordinary-extraordinary man. He certainly imprinted our lives at a pivotal time, when curiosity, logic, possibility and faith helped fuel a dream. There's magic and power in that quality, and it seems it was his signature. Together and independently your strength and deep gratitude for life have made this world a better place ... and the journey isn't over yet. We will fondly remember his warmth, honour truth and dedication in business with him in mind, and be here to celebrate his spirit with you always.

So sorry for your loss Silvia, Nicole and family. I've know Rick and Silvia for many years through my work in housing and Rick and I served on numerous committees / working groups over the years. Knowing Rick was part of it always meant the meetings were more thoughtful and more successful and then we got to share a beer afterwards which was always great fun. I love learning of the insects, nature and the fire-builder side of Rick expressed by family and friends. Couldn't help but think of another Olmstead (Frederick Law)........... The quality of Olmsted's landscape architecture was recognized by his contemporaries, Daniel Burnham said of him, "He paints with lakes and wooded slopes; with lawns and banks and forest-covered hills; with mountainsides and ocean views ..." All the best, cheers, Tex McLeod

Dear Silvia,
I would like to offer my sincere condolences to you and your family. We are so sorry that he left this world so soon. We are grateful that we have met Rick, he has positively influenced our lives. We appreciated his personality, his vision of how things should be, his curiosity and his optimism.
Rick was the pioneer for heat recovery ventilators in North American homes in the early eighties. This industry took decades to develop but Rick persevered and by being the best Ambassador for that category, the market is now blooming from North to South. We are sure that he can appreciate this outstanding success from where he is. He did indeed leave our world a better place.
Rick will miss us; we will remember him.

Rick had such a wonderful influence on my life. There was nothing quite like watching Rick at an industry trade show or a manufacturing plant tour. So curious, so many great questions, you could literary see him imagining opportunities. He taught me how to look for opportunities and how to get things done. One funny example. He loved velcro, always looking for ways to use it in manufacturing, "how about velcro" was an oft heard phrase in product meetings. I was always charged up and enthusiastic after I spoke to Rick. What a wonderful spirit that i know will sustain us all for years.

Chris and Cathie, thank you. Our community on Coldspring is one we have enjoyed very much over over the decades. Rick loved his walks, and catching up with the neighbours. He so enjoyed his time with Franklin and Ali as they walked to the park and shared time in nature. I will be making some pilgrimage walks for them, as weather improves. You may see some red eyes and tissues, as I dab the lonely tear, yet it will always be in appreciation. Thank you for your friendship. Silvia

Dear Silvia, Nicole and family,
Please accept my deepest condolences and prayers. I have the most wonderful memories of being a friend to your family. I truly loved living the beautiful building I called home for 12 years. The coffee visits with you Rick, Silvia and Alison. Rick I always enjoyed coming home to a very nice safe clean building. When you would have a moment to say hello in the parking lot of 2002 and ask what are you doing we would share a laugh or two. I would say I am taking pictures of the building it is so wonderful Rick! I will always remember your kindness, how much you loved your family, the laughter and tears that were shared. I have shared some of my favourite pictures of the building that was my home.
