Obituary of Mike Huculiak

1933-2021

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mike Huculiak, beloved husband, dad and Gigi, at the age of 87. Dad grew up on the family farm in Carpenter, SK, and later moved to Saskatoon, where he spent the next 44 1/2 years working for Intercontinental Meat Packers, while continuing to farm. One of Dad’s proudest moments was when he received the 100 year Heritage Award for his family’s homestead.

Dad met the love of his life Violet, and celebrated 60 years together, raising three daughters, and enjoying every moment spent with their five grandchildren. He was a selfless man and would do anything for his girls and grandchildren. He put on many miles, and spent countless hours over the years, taking his girls, and grandchildren to dance lessons, baton lessons, competitions, hockey practices, games, tournaments and school events. Anyone who had interacted with Dad would immediately learn of the immense love that he had for his family, and the pride that he took in their accomplishments.

Dad was known for his genuine personality, quick wit, infectious smile, and his continuous hospitality. No one ever left his home hungry and you knew each food item served was carefully chosen and “Mike inspected and approved” during his many long grocery shopping excursions.

Dad was a humble and generous man, who demonstrated a strong work ethic and value system. He was a storyteller, who loved to share fond memories of his life on the farm, his travels and special times with family and friends. Time spent at the lake fishing with his family and good friends, was one of Dad’s favourite pastimes. He was the fishing guide and made sure anyone who came to the lake would have the opportunity to get on the boat and catch their limit of fish. Dad also loved music, especially Ukrainian music. The sound of the violin would create a sparkle in his eyes and a skip in his walk. He loved to dance and took every opportunity to sweep someone off their feet for a polka, waltz, or butterfly dance every chance he had.

Dad’s strength was outstanding both physically and mentally right up to his passing. The words "I love you all” will forever be cherished in our hearts. Our family has lost an amazing husband, dad, and Gigi and we are so ever blessed to have had him in our lives.

Mike will be very much missed by his wife Violet, his daughters Shauna(Frank), Shannon, Sharlene as well as his precious grandchildren, Brooklyn (Cory), Chase, Carson, Parker and Elle. He will also be missed by his brother Julius(Dianne) , sister Elsie,  brother-in-law John(Sharon) and sisters-in-law, Anne, Tena and Ann, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and very special close friends.  Mike was predeceased by his parents Wasyl and Dora, brothers Bill, Ed and John, sisters Anne and Mary. A private family gathering will be held.
