To Lorna, Fraser, Roberta, Madison, Cassie and all of John's Family,
Please accept our sincere condolences. When I first heard of John's passing I was deeply saddened. John touched many lives but his family was the most wonderful blessing to him who he loved with all his heart. He was one of my mentors and I will never forget his kindness and generosity. Always a straight shooter and yet gentle, kind and honest man. I feel so grateful to have crossed paths with him this last number of years. He was a gift to so many people.
I just watched every minute of this wonderful Memorial you all put together so well. Family, Friends, his Musician Family, and Business Colleagues. It is a beautiful tribute to this special man. I will never forget John C. Thank you for sharing his life with us all.
Lorna thank you for your unwavering tribute at the end. Your tribute of love to John. It was very touching and I can see John with the Angels.
My heart breaks for your loss.

John was such a wonderful member of our family, and we count ourselves among those so fortunate to have known him.
This memory is from the trip my wife and I made to Molokai, Hawaii with John and Lorna. We ate breakfast together at one of their favourite locations. This trip together will remain among the most favourite of our times together.

We were saddened to learn of John's passing via the Star Phoenix Obituaries page. John was indeed a very special person -a true gentleman in all he did. John and Peter were both brewery people John with Labatts London and Peter with Carling O'Keefe at the Toronto Airport plant and subsequently many locations across Canada. Our paths crossed and intertwined for many years at Innovation Place in Saskatoon, John having established Philom Bios as the first significant tenant of the new research park and Peter somewhat later as the CEO of AgWest Biotech.
John was the consumate leader in the Saskatoon biotech community, encouraging many start up companies that were spun out of the College of Agriculture, Agriculture & AgriFood Canada Research Centre & NRC's Plant Biotechnology Institute. He was always in the forefront of people helping others to succeed. When asked, he would always give presentations on biotech issues in and around Saskatoon and welcomed visiting national and international delegations to the biotech cluster that he helped to found. and that they wished to emulate across North America and around the World.
John Vale ! You made a lasting contribution and acted as a beacon for those that followed

To John's Family;
My wife and I were so sorry to hear of John's recent death from a fellow Tempest and we send our deepest sympathy to his family, members of the Tempests and to all who travelled the way with John in business and community.
I was a roommate of one of the Tempests while attending Western U and was fortunate to have the opportunity to know all the members of this really interesting and very bright group of students and musicians. John was known as the Duke. He was a fine and gentle man right from the start. I attended many of the Tempests performances and social gatherings where they also attended. I was there when John met and dated Charlotte and we recognized immediately as a genuine love. When my wife and I were married in London, we were delighted the Tempests agreed to provide the music at our wedding reception. The band was terrific. During the speeches and toasts that are customary, John asked to say a word and his word was a poem dedicated to marriage and to us that John had scribbled on an napkin during the meal prior to the toasts. It touched both of us so much that my wife has kept it in her memory box and every once in awhile we read it. John's generous and creative gift that day was so typical of who he was and we have never forgotten him these past five plus decades. Although our paths took us in different directions after graduation, this gentle, fun loving and brilliant man will never be forgotten by us. His memory will stay in our hearts.
All who were lucky enough to have known him have been blessed!

To John’s family, please accept my sincere condolences. John will be missed by many people and for many reasons. He was, of course, a gifted scientist and scholar, but he was also an extraordinary human being who freely shared his experience, strength and hope with others that they might benefit from his life experiences. I had the good fortune of knowing John for more than 40 years and, from our first meeting, I knew him to be an unusually kind and generous person. Over the years since then, I have benefitted greatly from his friendship and I will miss him. To Roberta, whom I taught as a university student many years ago, in John I know what you have lost, but I also know what you have in your mind and heart that can't be taken away. I wish you well.

We will miss John’s cheerful greeting “Happy day neighbour!” and the many chats we had over the backyard fence. His quick wit sparked much laughter and his forever happy and optimistic nature exuded such love for life. It was an infectious quality that spread to those around him.
We are sincerely sorry Lorna for your loss of a beautiful and loving relationship with John — and Cassie (Kyler) and Madison for the loss of a kind and gracious stepdad. May the wonderful memories you have bring comfort and peace in the days ahead. With warm and heartfelt condolences.

John was someone who accepted people as they were - he saw you as you. In a country that still harbours biases against indigenous people - John had that beautiful gaze that was clear and kind. He lived in kindness and light - such a beautiful soul will surely abide in God's light.
He will be missed by all who had the privilege to spend time with him - we will miss him. Ekosi.
