We all were saddened to hear of Bruce's passing. He was a great neighbour and businessman! He occasionally would catch up to my mom when they were both out for their neighbourhood walks. Then they'd walk together for awhile. She always said,"there's no dawdling around when you walk with Bruce!" He is missed by all who knew him, in community and in business. Rest well, dear friend!

Bruce was a lovely gentleman and a fixture in the community. At our house we had a saying "if Bruce doesn't have it, you probably don't need it."

My condolences to Cousin Bob and all Bruce’s friends and relatives. Living in Michigan, I only had a few contacts with Bruce over the years, but they were memorable due to his good nature and story telling ability. The most memorable, and my favorite, was his telling about his honeymoon and intentionally running out of gas with his new car. Unfortunately, he had forgotten to put gas in the new can in the trunk!
Bruce and the Mayfair Hardware store were known far and wide, as evidenced by my experience a couple years ago in the Joshua Tree National Park. While parked, I notice a couple in a car with Saskatchewan plates. When they said they were from Saskatoon, I said I had relatives there and mentioned my cousin, Bruce, who owned the Mayfair Hardware store. They immediately said they knew it well and that it was their favorite hardware store.
Bruce, Elaine, and the Mayfair will be missed by many.

My Great Uncle Bruce was a very special man. I will forever remember playing store with his calculators in his office and making dance routines on the basement dance floor that was surrounded by Christmas lights. Our Sunday morning cuddles while watching football were lovely when I was little, and every story started with "Once upon a time...". He will be missed by many, and I hope he's back with his sweet Elaine.

My Great Uncle Bruce was one of a kind. I will always remember my childhood visits to Saskatoon - being able to pick out anything I wanted from the hardware store and finding a $10 bill stuffed in my pocket were highlights I won't soon forget. His infectious laugh and knack for storytelling will always be remembered and shared with our family's future generations. Rest in peace, Uncle Bruce.

What a neighbourhood icon, and his store an institution. You’d walk in, go to Bruce, ask where was . . . , and before you has finished he had whisked down an aisle, and had it on the counter tallying up the bill and stuffing it into a paper bag. And then there was the Christmas trees lot. We had an older Caswell house, and he kept hardware stocked for windows and doors for those old houses. Bruce and the store were one of the things that made Caswell Hill feel like a small town in the middle of the big city.

Very sad to learn that Bruce died. I was just one of thousands of customers who would drive across town to visit Mayfair Hardware. If Mayfair didn't have what you were looking it didn't exist. Bruce always made sure you were well looked after in an intense, but friendly manner.

The "Mayor of 33rd St" will long be remembered as being a kind man with a ready laugh. always having a story to share with you. He was good friends with our parents (Bob and Mill Maxwell) and over the years, when one of us entered the store he always would recognize us as being one of Bob's kids! The wonderful Christmas tree lot, the poinsettias during the holidays, and his amazing math ability that was far faster than the cash register........were almost as impressive as the inventory at the store. It really was the place that had everything you could want. As a long time supporter of Mayfair United Church, he always had tickets to sell for the fall supper or the dinner theater. He will be missed but his memory will always bring a smile. Rest in peace Bruce.

The World over, no matter where - if someone said they were from Saskatoon, I would say "you probably know my cousin"
They would look at me askance, and I would say "Bruce Thomas, from Mayfair Hardware' They all said sure, everyone knows Bruce! Jjoan Sorli

My condolences to the family of Bruce Thomas. Bruce was such a treasure to have known. His kindness exceeds the speed he processed cash at the cash register. He always knew his merchandise and where to find items. I was fortunate to have Bruce from Mayfair Hardware as my first customer to service each Monday morning at Sterling Distributors Ltd. We became good friends picking Saskatoon Berries, having coffee outings and most recently DQ treats. His store anniversary celebration was our last visit, hug and hand shake. God bless you Bruce!
