Obituary of Kathryn Turner

Kathryn (Kathy) Turner passed away at home Jan.7, 2021 with family by her side. 

Kathy was born October 25,1932 in Burgis, Saskatchewan and moved to Saskatoon as a young adult. 

Kathy is predeceased by her husband of 61 years Milton (Mick) Turner.  She is survived by her children David (Tracy) and Kim (Johnny), 5 grandchildren Kristi, Joelle (Jaime), Ryan, Mitchell and Rochelle, sister Ann, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Kathy was employed by the Bank Nova Scotia for 35 years and rose to the manager position for several branches in Saskatoon. She was also involved at the regional office level and was well respected by her peers due to her incredible work ethic. That work ethic was also evident at home where her family often remarked “when are you going sit down?”

Kathy was always known for her generous spirit and volunteer efforts. Her fellow volunteers described her as “smart, always helpful and a good teacher" as she taught others how to carry on the traditions.  She served as Treasurer for the CN Pensioners and was an integral part of arranging and hosting their Annual Christmas party. Kathy was also a highly active volunteer in the community with The Daughters of the Nile until its dissolution in 2008 and then helped launch a new organization called Just Friends which ran for 12 years. Kathy and Mick were also long-time volunteers at the Festival of Trees raising money for local hospitals. Other volunteer activities that she and Mick participated in were selling boat tickets for the Shriners every year, assisting with Shrine fundraisers, lunches, and dinners. Kathy also volunteered at Grosvenor Park United Church for many years in the 1960’s, and more recently at McClure United Church as an usher, greeter, and in counting offerings.

Kathy loved life, she was an avid gardener, painter, cross-stitcher, and wood carver who excelled in all these media. She believed in “what you give is what you get” and many family members and friends have told us how she positively inspired and was a mentor to them.

Kathy had a wonderful sense of humor and maintained it until her last days and she was a great example to us about positive attitudes and faith as she faced pancreatic cancer at the end of her life.
