It was a shock and very sad moment when I learned of the passing of [Judge] Ron Bell. My condolences to Leslie and the entire family. I had the privilege to work with [Judge] Bell from 1989 to 2002 at Provincial Court, then, I moved to Court of Queen's Bench in 2002.
We remained in touch, in some ways. He was a very special human being, caring, respectful, supportive and the list goes on. He would share stories, recipes, talk about his loving mother, who he cares for until the day of her passing; that was impressive to me, particularly because it was during Christmas times. A very loving son. I was also very pleased to have been invited by him to his retirement party, when he retired from Provincial Court. I have great memories of this wonderful man, human being. Was so shocked to learn that he was not well. He was so healthy, athletic. May he rest in peace. May Leslie and his family find comfort in the memories and legacies left by this husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend.

My memories of Ron are lengthy. At Nutana Collegiate, I was his “freshie” having known Ron and Dick from Waskesiu. On Freshie Day there was the opening football game and Ron was the place kicker. He shanked the opening kickoff and then got injured as part of the tackle. As one of the waterboys, I tried to console him on the sidelines by slapping him on the shoulder-only to learn later that he suffered a shoulder dislocation. Notwithstanding that unfortunate beginning, we developed a long lasting friendship. Also much later, he and his firm did legal work for our business activities. Part of a broader accomplished and respected family, Ron served his family, his profession ( later as a Judge), and his community with competence and integrity. Soft spoken and likeable and, with Leslie, Ron has left the most important legacy, his sons who are continuing to build and maintain the reputation of the Bell family. While certainly the finality is sad, this is a life to celebrate with gratitude. Sincerely, Herb Pinder

I extend heartfelt condolences to the Bell family. Ron an I were best friends in the early 1950s. We both lived on Main Street and spent a good deal of time together. I would bring over a six pack of grape pop and watch wrestling on their tv, imitating the wrestlers moves. Duck hunting with Bus in new 1957 Meteor cars and making plywood decoys in the basement, such fun. Saturday afternoons at MER-Lin Motors looking at all the new cars. Table tennis at the YMCA and tournaments in their basement.
Such good times at the shack tent at Waskesiu. Golfing at Ivan’s golf course on 8th street. I don’t ever remember an argument or disagreement between us. I only saw Ron once since those early days and that was thirty plus years ago. He was always easy going, honest and straightforward, qualities I’m sure he had throughout his life. I certainly value the time we spent together.

Our sympathies to Leslie and family on the loss of Ron. I've known Leslie for many years and always admired the obvious and unfailing love and respect she had for her husband. Our thoughts are with you, Leslie.

Ron will be greatly missed by many including those of us who were honoured to work with him on the Provincial Court. He was the administrative judge when I joined the court and was a mentor to me. Ron will be remembered for his courage in taking difficult positions, his principled approach to problem solving and compassion for many. My husband, Randy, remembers him fondly having played basketball with him for several years at “church basketball”. Our condolences to Leslie and the family
