My parents were Dr Daymond and Dina (van Nes) Daymond. When Kay and Jan moved to Canada, they stayed with my grandparents Thomas and Sophia van Nes until they found their own home in Saskatoon. Kay worked with Dr Upthegrove and Dad until they passed but continued with the business until she retired. Kay and Jan were family as my Mom's cousin Cato married a van der Tuuk in Holland, so they spent a lot of time with our family. My brother and I remember going to their little house on Spadina Cres. Memories include Jan digging the basement out and, of course the dogs, always dogs. The last time I visited her at Warm and Cozy she told me about skating from town to town in her youth in Holland. She waited a long time to join Jan. Rest in piece my beautiful lady.

Aunty Kay always had the brightest eyes, was full of smiles and nearly all of her conversations included many giggles. I remember many a visit to their "cottage" retreat right in the middle of the big city - these are some of my most vivid memories as a child. They were both such warm hearts and lovely people to have had the pleasure of having known and spent time with. With a heavy heart and teary eyes we say goodbye for now, though take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace to rest, with her Jan.

We have fond memories of Aunt Ge. We knew her because she regularly stayed with her mother and sister Lena in the Netherlands (Onderdendam). It was her childhood home. When their mother died at the age of 99 years she came to her sister. And later, when her sister stayed in a nursing home, she stayed with our parents in Bedum. Johannes and I traveled from East to West in Canada in 2006 and stayed with Aunt Ge for 3 days. It was very pleasant. She showed us the area, we went to a restaurant, museum and handicraft exhibition.

We're sad that Aunt Ge passed away last weekend. We are grateful that she has lived a beautiful and warm life. We remember her as a concerned loving aunt. Always attentive and interested in us.
Aunt Ge and uncle Jan came to the Netherlands regularly. They often came to Alkmaar for a few days, where our family lived. Later, after the death of Uncle Jan, Aunt Ge visited the Netherlands frequently until 2008. She also came to visit us in Brabant.
We have also visited her a few times in Saskatoon. That was always very cozy and the hospitality of Aunt Ge was superb. We are happy to recall our visits to the beautiful park and Indian museum Wanuskewin, the summer Shakespeare performances on the river and the stay in aunt Ge's lovely house and garden on Spadina Crescent East with stunning views over the Saskatchewan River. We cherish those moments enormously.
We are so pleased that Aunt Ge has enjoyed the last 5 years in the beautiful Warm and Cosy home. She was very happy and staff was so good taking care of her. Thank you aunt Ge for enriching our lives, we hope you may rest in peace.

We were so saddened to hear of the passing of Kay. She was our neighbour on Spadina Cres. for over 50 years, and was a very special lady. She not only shovelled her driveway, but would also sweep it - we often laughed about how many corn brooms she went through keeping the driveway and sidewalks clean. She is pictured with one of her dogs. and oh how she loved her doggie companions. When my sister was younger, she would go the Jan and Kay's and have tea with them. We loved and appreciated her and missed having her in the neighbourhood when she moved to Warm and Cozy. So glad that she was well taken care of over the last few years. The Insull Family

Sweet, Kind and Loving Aunty Kay. When we were young living in Saskatoon we would go visit Aunty and Uncle. Our visits always began with a tour of the beautiful garden followed by a cup of tea and a biscuit with butter and loads of chocolate sprinkles. Mom would visit with Aunty and Uncle while we played with the dog and watched a bit of TV in their tiny den which was filled with gorgeous quality items brought from their homeland I’m sure. Uncle and Aunty always had a warm and welcome hug for us. It felt like we had travelled to a little cottage in the middle of a forest once you stepped onto their property. Those are dear memories that I’ll hold close to. Thank you to the people who took good care of her.
Love, Sara Yuris (Breadner) “Louise’s daughter”

"Tante Ge" was so much a part of the ter Hart family in Estevan, Saskatchewan. She and her husband, Jan, befriended our parents, Jan and Pia ter Hart, when they were young, newlywed and newly arrived in Saskatoon, Canada in the late 1950's. It was always a special day when the van der Tuuks came to visit, as we knew Tante Ge would have a chocolate bar for each of us hidden in her purse! Once, when Ge and Jan were travelling to Holland and had a stay in Toronto, I went with my three children to the airport to meet them as I was living in Ontario. And guess what!! She had chocolate bars in her purse for my children as well! How we all loved her and how gracious, kind, benevolent and thoughtful she was. Her memory will always be a part of our childhood and beyond.
