It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Gregory on sept 27 2020 after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s. passing peacefully in the arms of his beloved wife of 57 years, Beverly Gregory (nee Beaven).
Predeceased by his parents Nick and Alice Gregory, brother Jim, Grandson Zachary Dawson. Survived by his loving wife Beverly, his three children: Jackie Peterson (Jeff), Darren Gregory (Michelle), and Dawn Dawson (Sean). Grandchildren Matthew Teri, Jamie (Kristin) Peterson, Justin Mattia and Noah Gregory, Kaitlyn and Xander Dawson. He also had 5 Great grandchildren: Nathan, Mitchell, Hunter, Owen and Jeff. He is also survived by his brother Robert Gregory (Janet) and brother Jim’s wife Lynne as well as many other relatives.
Born February 25 1940 on the family farm outside of Preeceville, Saskatchewan, Norm was educated in a one room schoolhouse until grade 8, graduating high school in Sturgis Saskatchewan in 1958. Norm went on to become an electrician. During his apprenticeship he met Beverly, his wife to be.
Married on August 31, 1963. Norman and Bev lived in Preeceville until he completed his apprenticeship with Dalton Electric. They had their first child Jackie while living in Preeceville. In 1965 they moved to Saskatoon where Norm worked as an electrician. In 1967 they had their second child Darren. Opportunities led to a one year job in Ohio USA. The call to the prairies was too strong and they moved back to Saskatoon in 1970. Two years later they had their 3rd child, Dawn.
Norm was regarded as a very accomplished professional amongst his peers. He was proud member in good standing with the IBEW for over 50 plus years. He loved the work that he did and the people he worked with
Norms greatest passion was his family. He had a never ending love for his wife Bev. He doted on her and spent so much time by her side enjoying her witty humour and large personality. He provided for his family and was so proud of his children’s accomplishments. As a grandfather, Norm was a natural. Feeding kids, changing diapers, and rolling on the floor, he was magnificent. The loss of his grandson Zachary affected him deeply.
The last few years of his life were challenging due to Alzheimer’s. He lived at home where Bev tended to him until it was no longer possible. The family was blessed to have had Parkridge Center (Saskatoon) admit him. He was cared for with dignity and respect. The family of Norman can never express how grateful they are to the entire staff of the care facility. “Papa” as the care staff referred to him, shed many tears when he left for the final time.
His faith was strong and he was not afraid of death. Sunday September 27, he was freed from the bonds that held him. We, his family, are comforted and relieved for him. He was always dignified and caring. He will be missed forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Norman’s memory to Canadian Lutheran World Relief.
