Obituary of Donald Douglas Olivier

Donald Douglas Olivier

July 28th, 1948 - September 11th, 2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our husband,  father and grandfather, Donald Douglas Olivier, who passed away suddenly on Friday, September 11th, 2020.

Donald was born in Saskatoon to Armand and Helen (nee Dyck) on July 28th, 1948. He was the youngest of three children and was raised by his mother after the untimely death of his father when he was just an infant. Their family made their home in Dundurn, SK., and this is where he made many lifelong friends and memories that he cherished throughout his life. He attended elementary school in Dundurn, followed by high school years in Hanley and St. Joseph's College in Yorkton, SK.

After high school, Donald wanted to broaden his horizons. He left Saskatchewan and worked at a variety of jobs in Calgary, AB, Nanaimo and Kitimat, BC. After a few years, he returned home to Saskatchewan to attend university.

Don met the love of his life during the fall of 1974. He married Connie Denis on April 23rd, 1976 in Saskatoon, and together, they embarked on an amazing journey filled with love, laughter and a few tears. Together, they had three children. Don was born to be a father, and he doted on them wholeheartedly. He never missed a school field trip or a chance to support and cheer on (loudly) his children during their various activities. The family enjoyed many wonderful trips - summers spent in Vancouver, exploring the United  States, and many fishing trips to Jan Lake.

Throughout his career in Saskatoon, Don worked for SGI, Parktown Hotel and Luther Care Homes. To Don, there were no strangers, just friends he had not yet met. He will be remembered for his smile, his kindness and his empathy.

Donald is survived by his loving wife, Connie; three children - Sarah (Shane), Armand Matthew, and Marc (Dawn); six beautiful grandchildren; brother - Arthur (Linda); and numerous relatives including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Donald is predeceased by his parents and sister, Arlene.

Our family extends a special thank you to his family doctor, Dr. Woloschuk, and to the numerous specialists and medical teams that oversaw his care throughout the years. We would also like to thank the First Response Team and the Coronary Care Unit staff at RUH who attended to Don in his final hours. They offered us comfort and kindness during a very difficult time.

Don has been cremated and due to Covid-19, a memorial will be held at a future date.
