Obituary of Sonja Hannelore Kinakin
KINAKIN, Sonja Hannelore
1931 - 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Sonja Kinakin announce her passing on Thursday, September 3rd, 2020 at St. Paul’s Hospital at the age of 89. Born on July 25th, 1931 in the village of Theta, Germany, Sonja was fearless from the start. Her courageous nature brought her across the seas and after landing in Halifax in 1951 nothing could stop her from living life to its absolute fullest. With adventure and curiosity as her guiding principles, Sonja made her way across Canada and after meeting, and falling head over heels in love with Max Kinakin in the Yukon, they went on to have 3 daughters and a life filled with love and laughter. 25 years in the Yukon, followed by 15 years in Victoria BC, mum moved to Saskatoon after dad’s passing in 1991. Her life in Saskatoon brought her many new friends and experiences. Mum believed in accepting and celebrating everyone’s uniqueness and her warmth made those around her feel loved and safe. She will always be remembered for her stories and her cooking. Sonja will be missed by family and friends in Canada and Germany but she will never be far from our hearts. A very small private family burial will take place on Wednesday, September 9th,2020 at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Sonja would have loved people to donate to the following –
