Obituary of Thomas Andrew Thomson

THOMAS ANDREW THOMSON JR.

Tom died peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, SK., on August 21, 2020 at the age of 60 years. 

He was born July 22, 1960 in Swift Current and was raised in Success, Saskatchewan.

As a premature baby his first few months were a struggle.  Nonetheless, he had strength and courage to battle every day.  This determination carried throughout his life with an ability to persevere in the face of many health and life obstacles.

As a young adult Tom moved to Saskatoon and built a life for himself.  In Saskatoon he was fortunate to have many long term friendships and considered many of these friends to be a part of his extended family.  He also worked multiple jobs in Saskatoon:  a meat cutter, janitorial, odd jobs and even his own window washing company. 

Tom found pleasure in watching football and cheering on the Montreal Canadiens, going to concerts and joining a group of friends who met regularly for coffee at Robins.  As a younger man he enjoyed baseball and was an umpire.  He had a “windmill” pitch and was known to break a few windows.

Tom was a very friendly man with a big heart who cherished his independence.  He never forgot a face or a name.

Tom is survived by his sister Leila (Murray) Smyth of Kennedy, SK., half-sister Lorna (Clair) Dorrance of Kennedy SK.; nephews Curtis (Kedy) Smyth, Tyler (Suzanne) Smyth, Justin (Ashley) Smyth and niece Jill (Chris) Lowe; great nephews Cooper Smyth, Zane Lowe and Weston Stevens; great nieces Scarlet Smyth and Leighton Stevens also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Also left to mourn his loss are Tom’s very dedicated friends of 40 + years Don (Barb) and family, Mildred (Kevin) and family.

He was predeceased by his parents Thomas Sr. and Lillian, infant brother Joey; grandparents James and Winifred Thomson, Edward and Helen Carruthers and many aunts and uncles.

Cremation has taken place and he will be buried in Swift Current at a later date.

Many thanks to the care teams at St.Paul’s Hospital 6th and 7th Floors and Renal Dialysis medical staff as well as Parkridge Centre staff who were all unwavering in their understanding and compassion while providing care to Tom.
