Obituary of Larry Joseph Gerard

Larry was born in Saskatoon, SK on January 15, 1972 to Felix Gerard and Helen Thomas. He passed away peacefully at his home on July 1, 2020.

Larry had a zest for life and enjoyed doing new things. First and foremost Larry was an amazing father, and grandfather. Larry was very quiet and reserved but at the same time very funny and enjoyed a good laugh and joking around. He loved his smart come back comments against his brother Lloyd whom tormented him all the time. Lloyd would give him a huge hug every time he would leave after visiting and Larry would say “ugh get away don’t touch me” jokingly as Lloyd would hug him so hard. Larry was the greatest brother anyone could ask for. Larry was a handy-man. He would often be either fixing vehicles with his son Kieran or doing some type of project to help his family. He always had time for his children even when it was time to teach Avery and Kieran how to drive. Even though it was a scary time, Larry was up for the adventure. Larry supported everyone in his family. He would always stay in touch with his sister Lisa and was always willing to travel to Calgary to help her with work on the house. He loved all his nephews and nieces and would spend time with them when he could.

After high school, Larry decided to take on a new challenge and moved to B.C. A number of years later, he moved back to Calgary where he began his apprenticeship program in plumbing. In 1995, Larry met Deanna and later moved to Cumberland House. They then moved to Saskatoon and started a family. They have four wonderful children. Vanessa, Gabrielle, Kieran and Avery. While in Saskatoon, Larry completed his Journeyman Plumbing in 2010 where he began his career as a plumber.

Larry was devoted to his children and would do anything for them. When his grandchildren, Dorian and Kingston came into this world, his devotion was even more so than ever for them. He would do anything for them, even if it meant giving up his last dollar to see the smile on their faces. Larry always wanted to ensure his children were well looked after. When he was deciding to move back to Saskatoon from Calgary, he knew it was a hard decision as it meant leaving his little girl Gabrielle behind. He consulted with Gabrielle to ensure she would be ok if he left. As Tyler was a part of Gabrielle’s life, she advised her dad that she would be ok. He then left Calgary to go and be with his other children and grandchildren.

Larry loved to travel and take new adventures with his family. They travelled throughout Canada, and the United States. The most memorable trip was when they all travelled to Disneyland for a family vacation. During this time, Vanessa was pregnant with his first grandchild Dorion. He always had his trips organized to a “T”. No room for mishaps.

Larry was a true and devoted Calgary Flames fan. Many times he would go watch his team play. Even when his brother Lloyd, who is an avid Edmonton Oilers fan would come to the city, they would go watch the battle of Alberta. Even if it meant him being surrounded by 300 oilers fans that made the trek to Calgary, he would still wear his Calgary Flames jersey with pride. A lot of times, he would come out the victor, as his Flames would win.

Larry leaves to treasure his memory, His three daughters Gabrielle(Tyler); Vanessa, Avery(Shaydon) and his only son Kieran(Summerlily); his grandchildren Dorion & Kingston; his best friend Deanna; his brother Lloyd(Julia); his sister Lisa; his father Felix; his mother Helen; his nieces and nephews Ashton, Lloyd Jr, Allyson, Samuel, Kira, Callie, Nicolas(Tatianna), Christopher(Garby), Matthew; numerous aunts and uncles; cousins; a big extended family, friends, and all who knew him.

Larry was predeceased by grandparents John & Nancy Thomas, Celestine & Lena Gerard; father in law Bernard Dionne; numerous aunts and uncles, cousins; and extended family.
