I have very fond memories of Jo and Allan and the family. I remember evenings when we shared coffee together and found all sorts of things to talk about. They were a wonderful couple and such good friends. What a wonder it was to meet Jo again in the Care Home here at Riverside and to see her warm smile again. This afternoon I watched the funeral service and felt that I was with you all again. What a long fruitful life she had!
As you mourn her loss, mourn not "as those who have no hope." Victor Hugo wrote: "Winter is on my head, but eternal spring is in my heart. The nearer I approach the end, the plainer I hear around me the immortal symphonies of the worlds which invite me."
Blessings on all of you.

I joyously remember Josie as an inspired teacher. From Grade VI to Grade X, I was one of her lucky students. These were the years during the 2nd WW and Jo instilled a genuine interest in world affairs by requiring us, in turn, to report a newsworthy event to the class each morning.
My father, known as, Abou, to the Trew clan, claimed the fame of having hired Jo Nelson since he was a school trustee at the time. She had his admiration and respect for life and he was thrilled when Josie chose to marry his nephew, Allan. So the odyssey of the Nelson – Trew union began. Doug, Dick, Mike and Tim please accept my sympathy as well as my sincerest love for your mother, Josephine (Nelson) Trew.

I wanted to pass on my condolences to family and friends of my Auntie Jo. I am deeply saddened but grateful for all the years she had. She had a tremendous influence on me in my younger years, particularly as a young adult. Auntie Jo and Uncle Allan were always there for me as I attended University in Saskatoon, endless support and I always looked forward to the meals I was offered weekly. Given the complexities of our families, I looked to her as a Grandmother. I loved her dearly. Although life took me to Toronto and I no longer saw her frequently and not at all in the last few years, she was often in my thoughts. My deepest condolences to my cousins and their children and the rest of the family. We were extremely lucky to have had her in our lives.

Although we did not know Doug's mom personally we wanted to send our condolences to the entire Trew family. We were always so impressed that she was so active and engaged in life at her age. Our deepest sympathies.

It is my great pleasure to remember grandma and in thinking of her life, be reminded of the many hours spent with her and grandpa while growing up. As a family, we had countless chances to eat food, which was always decidedly ‘cooked,’ and played plenty of games, which always had the promise of dogged competition. We shared lots of laughs, plenty of knowing looks and countless admiring smiles with grandma and grandpa.
Grandma will be missed, but the promise of peace and the dignity of our collective memories are nothing less than grandma deserves. Love you grandma.
