We were very saddened to read of George's passing.
He was a kind, gentle soul who shared my passion for nature.
I was fortunate to share many field trips with him over the years, visiting our beloved prairie landscapes. While we both enjoyed looking for birds, of course, George always kept his sharp eyes peeled for opportunities to take photographs.
And what a talented man he was when it came to the latter!
I still absolutely LOVE his gorgeous portrait of a Swainson's Hawk, which graces the cover of the revised edition of 'Birds of the Rosetown-Biggar District', which was written by Wayne Renaud and my younger brother Rob.
The Swainson's is one of my favourite birds and George’s image perfectly captures that beautiful species!
Of course, he also contributed many pictures throughout "our" book, which greatly improved the quality of the publication.
Sadly, although we were initially promised the photographs would be reproduced in colour, the powers that be decided against it, a decision which still upsets me to this day.
Having said that, I’m proud of that little book and George’s valuable contributions.
Sandra and I realize there are no words we can say to ease your pain at this most difficult time.
Our hope for you all is that someday your sorrow will be replaced by only happy memories.
Sandra and Guy Wapple,
Saskatoon
