Obituary of Clara Louise McLellan
Clara passed away peacefully at the age of 100 years with family by her side at St. Paul’s Hospital, Palliative Care Unit on December 10, 2019.
Clara was born on August 26, 1919 on the family farm south of Forgan. Special memories of her youth include; horse-back riding, attending Alford School, a one-room school house and summer vacations at Clearwater Lake with family. In order to help her family during the Depression Clara worked on several neighbouring farms. She then worked as a clerk at McDonald’s General Store in Wiseton for many years.
Clara married the love of her life, Archie McLellan, on October 2, 1947. They enjoyed 65 years together. They raised their family in Dinsmore and she assisted Archie as his book keeper at their John Deere Dealership.
Clara’s community involvement included the UCW, taught Sunday school and volunteered at many community church and rink events. Clara especially enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, dancing, curling, cards, “bird-watching”, coffee with friends and cooking and baking for family.
Clara and Archie retired from their business and moved to Saskatoon in 1975. They enjoyed many happy times with family and friends.
Clara had a special bond with all of her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. There was a special place in her heart for each of them. Clara was a joy and a blessing to all who knew her.
Clara is survived by daughters Marlene(Gary), Judy(Kim), Janice(Dean) and daughter-in-law Becky; grandchildren Arlene(Andy), Kent(Jamie), Danny(Pam), Lindsay(Brad), Lesley(Jason), Kyla(Ryan), Chris(Jennifer), Kimberly(Devon), Jeremy(Yonina), Kimberly and Jeremy’s father Vern(Karen), Kevin, Amanda(Steve); great grandchildren Chelsea, Rebecca, Kelsey, Kailey, Jaycee, Alexys, Nathaniel, Kailyn, Carsen, Archer, Grady and Clara.
Clara was predeceased by her husband Archie, son Barry, parents Irena and Russell Coakwell, sisters Alice Thompson, Faye Coakwell and Joyce Walker, brother Norman Coakwell, sisters-in-law Dorothy Coakwell, Jean Varty, Evelyn Henderson and brothers-in-law Roy Thompson, Doug Varty and Colin Henderson.
The family would like send a special thank you to the staff of the Medical and Palliative Care Units at St. Paul’s Hospital for the care Clara received during her stay.
A Celebration of Clara’s Life will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 2pm at Saskatoon Funeral Home with Sue Panattoni as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, St. Paul’s Hospital.
