My condolences on the loss of your Mother, Grandmother. Mrs. Lafreniere
was my manager for 25 years and truly shaped my career. I would not have gone back to school to become an RN without her encouragement and support. She will be fondly remembered.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Mrs. Lafreniere. My heartfelt sympathy goes to her family. I was very fortunate to begin my nursing career under her expert guidance. She instilled her love of orthopedics, sense of respect and kindness, vast knowledge base, importance of working together as a team and lifelong learning in her staff. She happily shared stories of her time at Little Bear Lake and her family, recipes, reading recommendations, gardening tips and so much more. 2DE and then 5300 were like a work family thanks to her leadership. She will be missed.

My wife Carolyn and I send our deepest condolences to Ida's family and friends on their sad loss.
I worked with Ida on the Orthopedic ward at the Royal University Hospital from 1975 until her retirement when she was Unit Nursing Manager and I was Head of the Division of Orthopedics, Department of Surgery in the College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, and Saskatoon Health Authority.
Having worked in UK, USA and Canadian Hospitals I feel qualified to state that Ms Lafreniere (I have never heard anyone address her by any other name at work) was the best nurse and nurse unit manager I have ever met. Always fair, calm and professional, her patients felt her confidence, her junior nurses followed her example and surgeons respected her skills.

I am very sorry to hear that Ida had died. Ron and Ida were very valued friends of mine for many years. I have many wonderful memories of the great times we had together. Now that they are both gone, the world has become a lonlier place.
