Obituary of Gwenyth Mary Davis

DAVIS, Gwenyth Mary
1925 - 2019

It is with heavy hearts that the Family announces the peaceful passing of Gwenyth Mary Davis on Friday October 11, 2019 at the age of 94. Gwen was an unassuming but very resourceful mother who ensured her kids and grandkids were raised through love and strong values. She worked hard to instill the tradition of dinner together with family and friends, no matter how busy we all were. The fact that our family remains close to this day is a reflection of the selflessness and stewardship of her and her husband, Tommy Davis, of 63 years. She will be remembered as an avid gardener, crafter, teacher, cat lover, and master holiday feast chef. To Gwen, life was full of teachable moments and navigated her own life with strength, mindfulness, and glam.

Gwen was born on January 25, 1925 and was raised in Toronto, Ontario.  She often told her children of the fun things that she did growing up, whether going down to the Danforth or going out dancing with her friends, which included her sister Meg and her brother Glyn.  She met Tommy in Toronto during World War II and they were married in 1948.  Gwen and Tommy initially lived in Toronto but after their first son Gib was born, they moved to Edmonton.  They raised their family in Edmonton and Saskatoon. Together, they actively supported the community and formed many strong friendships, especially in the High Park neighborhood of Edmonton. After moving to Saskatoon in 1971, Gwen and Tommy were fortunate to settle into College Park where they enjoyed lasting friendships with the “Mount Allison Gang”.  Gwen understood the importance of community and friendships and she was routinely at the forefront of hosting dinners, including themed dress up parties, sing songs or card tournaments that were “fiercely” contested.  The fun regularly went late into the night.

Gwen was predeceased by her husband, Tommy; mother and father, John and Mary; brother, Glyn; sister, Meg; and beloved grandson, little Drew. She is survived by her loving children, Gib (Judy), Casey (Karen) and Nancy (Jeff); grandchildren, Helen (Regan), Gibby (Christina), Jacqueline, Tommy, Robby, Dylan, and little Casey; great grandchildren, Jaelyn, Rylen, Maxwell, Sloane, and Remy; her sister-in-law, Pauline; and brother-in-law, Bob and several nieces and nephews.

Despite memory struggles in her later years, Gwen enjoyed resilient health and good spirits. Thank you to the staff at Stonebridge for your kindness and care of Gwen over the past few years.
