Obituary of Helen Gertrude Schriek
Helen was born October 5, 1938 at Govan, Saskatchewan and passed away September 23, 2019 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.
Helen is survived by her sister Thelma Fisher of Sherwood Park, AB and her family, brother John (Marlene) Law of Melville, SK and their family; sister Dorothy (Peter) Livingstone of Craik, SK and their family; sister-in-law Joan Law of Foam Lake, SK. and her family; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Carole Schriek of Maple Ridge, BC and their family; sister-in-law Matthy (Gerrit) Brink of Apeldoorn, The Netherlands and their family; sister-in-law Rayma Schriek of New Zealand and her family.
She was predeceased by her husband Carl; parents Elmer and Ruby Law; brother George Law; parents-in-law Martha and Jacob Schriek and brother-in-law Jaap Schriek.
Helen had a 24 year career as a teacher, most of her teaching years (1963 – 1983) were spent in Major, SK. In 1983 Helen and Carl moved to an acreage north of Asquith and she substitute taught at the Eagle Creek Colony, the Sunny Dale Colony and Sonningdale School for many years before retiring. She was also very involved with the Asquith United Church serving as Presbytery Rep. for the congregation for 20 years, president of UCW for many years and church council member. Helen also enjoyed reading and was a member of “Sandra’s Book Club” at Perdue, SK for 14 years. Her other interests were golfing at Silverwood Golf Course in Saskatoon and bowling in the STS bowling league at Eastview Bowl in Saskatoon. Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the SPCA or to the Govan Cemetery Fund.
A memorial service in Helen’s memory will be held at 2:00 pm from Mount-Royal Emmanuel United Church (521 Vancouver Ave N, Saskatoon) on Saturday, October 5, 2019 conducted by Joan Brown.
