Obituary of Donald Albert Afseth
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Don Afseth at the age of 88 on Aug. 27th at St. Paul’s Hospital. Don was born in Saskatoon, Sk. to Mike and Voilet Afseth. Don attended Nelson Rural School, and then graduated from Tech Collegiate in Saskatoon. He then graduated from the School of Agriculture at the U of S. Don farmed on the family farm in the Asquith/Delisle District until into his eighties.
He worked for Masonry Contractors and then became a partner in AMC Masonry. Don married the love of his life, Helen Kostiuk on September 28th, 1957. Don will lovingly be remembered by his wife, children and grandchildren and all who knew him as a loving, hard working, sincere man. He loved to tease and had a great sense of humour. Don always looked on the bright side of things and seldom complained. His family always knew that he loved them and he was a joy to be around. He had kind eyes and a beautiful smile. He enjoyed farming, travelling, camping, fishing, watching sports and spending time with his family and friends.
His faith in Jesus Christ was where he drew his daily strength. When asked how he was doing especially in his later years he would say "I'm taking one day at a time". Don is survived by his wife Helen; His son Wayne (Florence), Amanda (Ryan), Chase, Gavin and Mila Chiesa, Joel Afseth. His son Terry (Marie), Kim, (Jeffrey) and Shea Kieper, Sarah (Steven) Loitz. His brothers Bob (Marg) Afseth and Bill (Sharon) Afseth.
Don was predeceased by his parents Mike and Voilet, brothers Jack and Wesley and sister in laws Verna, Marg, and Margaret. A Celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, Aug. 31st at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 323-4th Ave. S, Saskatoon. Lunch to follow interment. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Zion Lutheran Church or The Cancer Society.
