Obituary of Simon Minovitch

MINOVITCH, Simon
1932 - 2019

On August 25, 2019, at the age of 86, Simon (Simeon) Minovitch died peacefully attended by his wife Susan. Simon was born October 22, 1932 In Cadillac Saskatchewan.

Simon is survived by his wife Susan (nee: Johnsen); daughter Debra Minovitch; son Neil (Maureen); daughter Janice Tranberg (Dale); grandchildren Joshua Minovitch (Candice), Heather Firemoon (Mark), Nile Minovitch, Mason Eastveld (Shannon), Holly King (Stuart), Jessica Adams (Wesley), Maya Tranberg, Rylan Tranberg, with 13 great grandchildren & 2 great-great grandchildren.

Simon was the last living member of his immediate family and was predeceased by his parents Oscar & Fannie, brothers and sisters Eva Sakolsky, Miriam Mandel, Lloyd Minovitch, Norma Wise, Harry Minovitch, Esther Ross, Divera Lukeman, and first wife Muriel (nee; Jamieson).

Simon was raised in Moose Jaw and attended King George and Peacock Technical schools. He served one tour of duty with the Royal Navy aboard the HMS. Techumseh in the Pacific. After returning home he met, and married, his first wife Muriel Jamieson. They raised 3 children and finally settled in Balgonie where he began his career as an electrical contractor. After Muriel’s passing he moved to Big River where he met, and married Susan. They enjoyed 39 years together as they worked in various locations and travelled.

Simon attended Synagogue in Moose Jaw and Beth Jacob Synagogue in Regina. He became a member of the Agudas Israel Synagogue in Saskatoon and found comfort in his faith and being part of this congregation. He helped out in his community in various ways, was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Lion’s Club, and served as chapter Director for the Saskatoon Gold Wing Assoc.

Simon was a passionate man who approach his hobbies with heart and soul. He loved his horses and moved the family out of Regina to a small acreage to be nearer to them. Later, he became just as passionate about his different motor bikes. He and Susan travelled North America and let the wind take them where it may. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting big game and fowl, and was an experienced fisherman.

Simon truly valued the time he was able to spend with family and friends. He was approachable and made friends everywhere he went.

The Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home conducted by Rabbi Claudio Jodorkovsky with burial at Agudas Israel Cemetery followed by the Meal of Condolence at the Edwards Family Centre. Parking available south of the funeral chapel.
