Life will not be the same again. Who will appreciate Palok's dry Martini anymore? with whom can we discuss any further the topics spanning statistics to religion or with whom can we reciprocate the sense of humor...that was Professor Jana..the brief part of his life, we saw, was professionally professed.
Will miss ya, your memory will always be cherished and you will be among us forever. Prisha, Sanjukta, and Palok.

Dear Mrs. Jana:
We are all extremely saddened to learn about Dr. Jana's demise. Sheila and Sgharmila join us in sending our heartfelt condolences to you, Kunal and Arup as well as other family members.
I got to know Dr. Jana when he visited my University in Orissa where I was teaching just before I moved to Saskatoon to work on a Ph.D. under his supervision. This was an important opportunity for me and my future life. He allowed me to take important decisions about my research project which helped boost my confidence in designing and completing projects independently. I probably did not convey my personal appreciation to him about this but, want to say that I owe him a lot for my research career here in Canada. His timely guidance and help were instrumental in getting me and my family through my initial years as a student. In short, he was a great Professor.
After my graduation, he treated me and my family as a friend and we all have fond memories in this regard. I use to enjoy our yearly chat during my visit to Saskatoon during the Pujas which I will be missed dearly.
We hope you and the rest of the family are coping with this great loss. We wish his soul rests in peace.

Dear Bharatidi,
We were so sad to hear about the demise of Shaktida! Our deepest condolences to you and your family. Dada was someone I always enjoyed chatting with, mainly because he was such a knowledgeable person and a true scholar. I will always cherish our spirited conversations on many diverse topics including science, literature, art, politics, religion.....just to name a few. Along the way I learnt so much from him. He had a highly successful career as a teacher and scientist, and to me he was and always remain an inspiration. May his soul rest in peace!
With love and respect from the bottom of our hearts,
Som, Mili, Esita & Rupam

Dear Bharati and family: very sad to see a longtime friend leave all of us forever. Saktida has been known as caring person and one without any prejudice to anyone based on differences in faith, race or ethnicity. His liberal mind focused on continuously searching for universal values not limited to scriptures of any particular faith or traditional views of a specific political entity. He was an activist for many social causes. When I travelled to different international destinations and came across some of his research collaborators , all of them conveyed their deep respect for him. May his soul rest in eternal peace. - Asit & Ila8
