Obituary of Riley Evan Stagg
Riley’s family is deeply saddened to announce his sudden and unexpected passing on July 31, 2019 in Saskatoon at the age of 31 at the family home.
He is survived by his brother Joel Clark; sister-in-law Ashley Dyck; niece Evie Clark; grandmother Marj McIver; cousin Desten Messner and aunt Kristen Messner. He is also survived by mother Shari Stagg; father Murray Stagg, great-grandparents Jacky Clark, John and Eleanor Stagg; great-aunt Sandra Clark; estranged step-grandfather Wayne Messner and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends. He is predeceased by grandfather Wayne Clark and great-grandfather Ben Clark.
Riley was born in Saskatoon on December 19, 1987. He attended several schools in Saskatoon and Red Deer before returning to Saskatoon with his brother Joel in 1995 at the age of 7 to live permanently with their grandmother. He graduated from Nutana Collegiate. Riley was an independent person and left home at 21 years of age. Early employment was in the hospitality industry followed by employment as a shipper/receiver in the heavy equipment industry prior to his mental health deteriorating. Riley’s true love was technology. He trained himself and was an expert at fixing broken computers and cell phones, modding video game systems and anything to do with electronics. He made his own video games to play. He took Japanese as his second language in high school just so he could read instructions for the original games. It was like solving puzzles to him and he persevered until the puzzle was solved. He also loved music including concerts and festivals and attended many in SK and BC, camping out. His choices of music were a bit unconventional and included electronic, underground hip hop, metal and hardcore punk. Riley was not a religious person but he was a kind, caring and generous man. He had no prejudices and knew people from all walks of life. Skin colour, sexual or gender orientation, culture, religious beliefs or status made no difference to him. He judged no one but saw the real person and who you were inside. He was completely non-violent. Riley, although we love you and miss you, your family and friends take some comfort in knowing your mind no longer torments you and at last, you rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association (1301 Ave. P N Saskatoon, SK S7L 2X1).
