Obituary of Leila Margaret Wood
Wood, Leila “Lee” Margaret
January 8, 1934 - July 12, 2019
Lee was born in Finch, Ontario, to Blake and Pansy Nephew. She was the younger sister of Jan and Harold. Lee grew up on the family farm where she developed her love of animals. She was proud of her 4H award-winning Jersey cow, Daisy, and endeavoured to tame every animal she met. Lee became a teacher and taught Grade 2 in Ottawa before marrying her husband, Jim, on December 29, 1956. Lee and Jim had three sons. After living in Vancouver and Toronto, Lee and Jim settled in Saskatoon where she took part in the Faculty Wives Club, restoring antiques, birdwatching, golfing, and gardening. Lee volunteered at the Mendel Art Gallery for many years and enjoyed supporting local artists. She was an avid shopper and enjoyed acquiring collectibles. Being with family was always the top priority for Lee. Grandma’s “butteries”, special buns she always made for Christmas mornings, are still loved by her family. Lee will be lovingly remembered by her husband Jim, her sons Rod (Susan), Rob (Lori), and John (Laurie) and her grandchildren Mary, Kat, Conner (Mimi Choo), and Jenn (Nathan Eichhorn). She is survived by her sister, Jan Playford, nieces and nephews, and many treasured friends. Lee was a kind soul with a zest for life. She died peacefully with family at her side. The family thanks the staff at C-PAS and Luther Special Care Home for their care and compassion during Lee’s short stay. A private family Celebration of Life will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Lee’s memory to the SPCA.
