Obituary of Leon Leonard Holoboff

The Lord has taken Leon into his arms on June 20, 2019. He passed away at home surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with his illness, Progressive Super Nuclear Palsy. Leon was born on November 2,1936, the youngest of four children, to Samuel J. and Helen Holoboff. He will be forever lovingly remembered by Deanna, his wife of 63 years, his three daughters: Kim (Wade) King, Marnia (Dan) McGillis, Tamara (Bentley) Livingstone, his grandchildren: Christopher (Dawn), Ryan, Bryce (Samantha), Melissa (Dylan), Kylee, Brett (Brittany), Bryanna (Adam) and his great grandchildren, Leylah-Ann, Gabriella, Dreyden, Daxton, and Maizie.

Leon was compassionate and caring to everyone who crossed his path in life. He had an infectious laugh that made one laugh with him. He was dedicated to his family, always being there for them no matter the time or distance. In his early childhood, his parents moved to Saskatoon from their farm by Eagle Creek. Leon attended Princess School, where he excelled in fastball, earning an inscription on a fastball bat to that regard. He also loved to play soccer. He furthered his education at the Saskatoon Technical Collegiate, before the calling to the farm came once again. At an early age, he met his love and companion for life - Deanna. They married October 18th, 1955 and farmed for a short time before moving back to Saskatoon. Their first daughter, Kim Lorie, was born while they were still living on the farm. Upon their move to the city, Leon worked briefly at a furniture store, did some construction work and drove a cab. He became an employee of Canada Post - Parcel Delivery, in 1959, but still continued driving cab to supplement their income. At this time a second daughter, Marnia Leanne, and a third daughter, Tamara Lou, were born. He enjoyed his three daughters immensely and before long he became a coach for them in softball, travelling the province for their tournaments. He also made a special effort to get them to their music lessons and attend their concerts. Leon was an avid curler and won many trophies He also played baseball during his lifetime and earned the nickname "Ace" for his excellent skills as a ballplayer with Canada Post.

He had a love for travelling and he took the family many a time to the mountains and part of the U.S.A.. Country life was his dream and they did a lot of camping excursions in Saskatchewan. He had extended winter travel vacations to the U.S.A. - Palm Springs, California, Lake Havasu, Arizona, Las Vegas, Nevada, New Orleans, Louisiana, and McAllen, Texas and to Mexico - La Paz, Baja Peninsula; and to Varadero, Cuba. Leon carried mail for 32 years with dedicated service. He often mentioned that he walked the equivalent of crossing Canada a couple of times or more. He finally decided country living was his beck and call and he retired to his cottage at Wakaw Lake in 1996 at the age of 60. He remodeled the cottage and boathouse. He spent many hours on woodworking projects. He also excelled at wine making and bread making, which family and friends enjoyed on many occasions. Leon had many happy experiences with his children and grandchildren, whether it was at the lake or attending their ball games, hockey and ringette tournaments, curling games or their playful days and happy visits.

He loved singing Russian and English songs and entertained his fellow letter carriers, friends and children on many occasions. He sang in the Doukhobor Choir. He entertained many friends and family over the years in their home, enjoying a loved one's touch. He always believed in a higher power, and he accepted the Lord very early in his life. He found his peace with the Lord on June 20th, 2019. He leaves with you a soul inspiring thought: "God is Faithful, God is Love and there is comfort in the thought, that a loving God knows best for all of us. Please remember me with acts of kindness and love." The Funeral Service will be held at the Saskatoon Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 11:00 am conducted by Jeanette Stringer.
