Beryl Allan

Obituary of Beryl Adell Allan

Beryl was born on March 11, 1931 in Quill Lake, SK, the third of five children born to Harry Franklin King and Mildred Adell King (nee Gammon). Following high school, Beryl took a secretarial course in Saskatoon. She worked in Regina, Tisdale and Saskatoon. It was while working in Tisdale that Beryl met Ferguson Scott Allan. Beryl and Ferg were married in Saskatoon on April 15, 1955. Beryl worked for GMAC until the birth of their first child. Beryl spent the next few years as a stay at home mom, occasionally babysitting for other working moms. Beryl and Ferg raised four children: Michelle Adell was born on November 21, 1955, followed by Vaughan on March 4, 1957 and Susan on September 3, 1960. The family moved to Tisdale in January, 1961 and their fourth child, Christine, was born there on May 24, 1962. Once the children were in school, Beryl worked in the family hardware store, Lamb Hardware. In her late thirties, Beryl began to experience numbness in her legs, which she chalked up to being on her feet all day at work. In time, Beryl was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). The disease would eventually rob Beryl of two of her pastimes, knitting and reading. She and Ferg had started to spend a few weeks during the winter in Victoria but the stress of travelling, either by car or plane, often triggered an exacerbation of the MS. While she was able to, Beryl had curled in the winter, spent summers at the cottage at Kipabiscau Lake, and had been a member of Eastern Star, Kinettes and the ACW. As Beryl's health and mobility declined, Ferg took over more of her care as well as managing the house. Following Ferg's passing in May 2018, it became necessary for Beryl to go into a long term care facility. She moved into Parkridge Care Center in September of 2018 and resided there until her passing. Beryl was predeceased by her husband, Ferg; parents, Harry and Mildred King; brother, Bud (Wayne) King; sister-in-law, Sandra King; and brothers-in-law Herman Lissel, Jim Bradshaw and Dick Gilbertson. She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Adell (Hal Wright), Susan (Dan Senft), and Christine Allan (Rob Benning); son, Vaughan Allan (Linda McNally); grandchildren, Leah Adell (John Butt), Iain Wright (Michaela), Eve (Derek Edmonstone), Christina Senft (Brandon Kjewski), David Senft, Hayden Senft, Graham Senft (Jen Marika), Lynn Allan and Thomas Benning; great-grandchildren, Rene Adell and Jesse Butt, Liam and Addison Wright, Wyatt and Sawyer Edmondstone, and Emmett Randall-Senft; sisters, Darlene Gilbertson and Eunice Bradshaw; brother, Bill King (Jean); sister-in-law, Nancy Allan; aunts, Joyce Clarke and Jean Gammon; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Beryl's middle name, Adell, was her mother's middle name, and has been passed down to her daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter.
The family would like to thank the staff at Parkridge, particularly those on Southridge 2, for the care and compassion Beryl received over the past nine months. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada or a charity of your choice. Following cremation, Beryl's cremains will be interred beside Ferg in the Tisdale Cemetery.
