Obituary of Marcella Johanna Balezantis
It is with sadness the family of Marcella Balezantis announces her passing on May 19, 2019 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon at 81 years of age. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Tony Balezantis; her daughter Sandy (Ian) MacKay and their children Megan and Scott; her son Ron (Wendy) Balezantis and their children Reid, Lindsay and Griffin(Deceased); and her daughter Donna (Ken) Michasiw and their children Matthew and Jenny. She was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Kowalow and her sisters Nettie and Jean.
Marcella was born November 15, 1937 in Hubbard, SK where she lived and attended school until moving to Saskatoon to attend university in 1955, to pursue a degree in Pharmacy. She met Tony at university and they married in 1960. Marcella put her education on hold to raise their children, and later resumed her education and obtained her degree in 1982. She had a successful career as a pharmacist with the majority of her time managing White’s Pharmacy.
Marcella thoroughly enjoyed flowers, gardening, animals, playing Scrabble, bowling, bocce ball, camping, and visiting and socializing with friends and family. She took pride in cooking for her family, celebrating and entertaining at all holidays and special occasions like birthdays and graduations.
Marcella was very proud of her children and grandchildren, and she was always involved with and interested in their activities and achievements. She will be truly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society, Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, or the Saskatchewan Abilities Council in memory of Marcella.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church (114 Kingsmere Place).
