Obituary of Gertrude Mable LaRocque
With love and sadness the family of Gertrude (Gert) LaRocque (nee Jordan) announce her passing on May 3, 2019 at the age of 86 years. She passed surrounded by family in her home at Stonebridge Crossing Retirement Community in Saskatoon, SK. Gert was predeceased by her loving husband Wilfred (Fred) LaRocque in 2016. They shared 62 years of marriage together. Gert leaves four children: daughter Susan Kuling (Paul); three sons: Doug LaRocque (Carol); Les LaRocque (Cheryl); Barry LaRocque (Michelle); ten grandchildren: Jeff (Chrystal), Shauna (Bill), Amanda, Taylor (Mitch), Matthew (Emily), Steven, Denae, Reanne, Megan, Abby; five great-grandchildren: Brynn, Ben, Sienna, Jacob and Ava. She will lovingly be remembered by many extended family and friends. Gert was predeceased by her parents: Roy and Alice Jordan and all her sisters, brothers and their spouses: Marjory Jordan, Frances McLeod (Les), Lillian McLeod (Hugh), Leslie Jordan (infant brother), Clarence Jordan (Olive), Murray Jordan (Jenny), Donald Jordan. Gert was born August 4, 1932 at home on the farm near Goodwater, SK. In 1949 the family moved to Tribune, SK where she lived until she completed school. After high school, Gert attended Balfour Technical Collegiate in Regina, SK. completing an office assistant certificate. Gert met Fred in Regina and they were married in 1953 in Lebret, SK. They made their home and started their family in Regina. In 1961 they moved to Yorkton for a work opportunity for Fred. For several years Gert was a caring, involved and busy stay-at-home Mom. While continuing to raise their family, she returned to work as office assistant for a local Plumbing Company, then with the Yorkton District Municipal Office followed by office and library assistant at St. Alphonsus School - Yorkton Catholic School Division. She enjoyed her work and lasting friendships that she made until retiring in 1997. Gert enjoyed family first, friends, her work, family cabin, gardening, baking, calligraphy and embraced computers and email as this technology became a part of life. Gert and Fred moved to Regina to retire in 1997 to be closer to family. She was especially proud of her family and loved being "Gramma." The family are grateful to the staff of The Bentley Hillsdale in Regina, SK and Stonebridge Crossing Retirement Community in Saskatoon, SK for their caring support and commitment that made their communities home for Gert. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Parish, Regina, SK on Tuesday May 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, Regina, SK. Memorial donations may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 Mclntyre St., Regina, SK S4P 2R3.
