Obituary of Loreen Hilda Martin

The family of Loreen Martin is saddened to announce her passing on Friday April 19, 2019 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the age of 85 years.  Mom was born on a farm near Ridgedale, SK, and was the first of eight children born to Gus and Olga Shelke. She married Harry Martin in 1959 and spent 32 years farming in the Nipawin area before moving to Saskatoon in 1991. Mom was a kind, gentle and generous woman who will live in our hearts forever and will be missed dearly. She will be remembered by her five children:  Greg (Kim) of Edson, Alberta, Sharon (Steven) of Grapevine Texas, Shelly of Saskatoon, Sask., Karen (Darren) of Saskatoon, Sask., Kelly (Celine) of Saskatoon, Sask., eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.  She will also be remembered by brothers Irvin, Edward, and Herman, sisters Wendy and Anne, sister-in-law Irma Shelke, brother-in-law Russell Martin and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, husband Harry, and brothers Fred and Jim. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.  The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Dudley (Idylwyld Medical Centre), the wonderful staff of both the Palliative Care Unit, St. Paul’s Hospital and of the Saskatoon Convalescent Home for the care and compassion given to Mom in the last few months.  Donations in Mom’s name can be made to the Campaign for Hospice and End-of-Life Care to help build Saskatoon’s first hospice at closetohome.fund.
