Olive Sipko of Calgary passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the age of 94 years.
Olive was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, entertaining and special occasions with family & friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life!
St Thomas Wesley United Church played a significant role in her life. She attended weekly services and nurtured strong friendships developed over a seventy year period.
With life partner Bill, Olive was an enthusiastic participant in camping, fishing, and attending trailer club functions. Dancing was a major part of their social life with various Square, Round, and Pattern dance clubs in Saskatoon. Both enjoyed their trailer and motorhome trips across Canada and continental US. Other travel destinations included Hawaii, Mexico, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand.
Keeping her hands busy was an extremely important part of her life and included sewing, needlepoint, paper tole, beadwork, knitting, quilting and crocheting.
Olive participated in Saskatoon Craft Guild, Mari Misfits and volunteered with Caring Clowns as Allee-the-Clown.
Olive is survived by her sons, Gordon (Georgina) and Dale (Karen); grandchildren, Lindsey Gill (Blake), Chris Sipko, Jeffrey Sipko (Glannel Paek) and Nikki Haller (Clayton); great-grandchildren, Carson and Koen Gill, Tatum and Annika Haller; nieces, Adeline Rockett, Grace Popoff (Albert), Dr. Shirley Perry, Linda Matshes (Ron) and Brenda Hinther; nephews, Bob Short, George Short (Margaret), Maurice Cheveldayoff, Don Cheveldayoff (Merviana), Gary Yokubouskis (Paula), Kevin Sipko (Wendy) and David Sipko; sisters-in-law, Sharon Chotard and Dot Lockhart; and many other extended family members.
Olive was predeceased by her husband William Sipko; parents, William and Anastasia Strelioff; brothers, Fred Strelioff, Peter Strelive (Helen) and William Strelioff; and sisters, Mercedes Cheveldayoff (Alex) and Christine Short (Robert).
A Gathering will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service will be at Woodlawn Cemetery (1502 2nd Ave N, Saskatoon, SK) on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. Memorial service will be held following the graveside at the Saskatoon Funeral Home (338 4th Ave N, Saskatoon, SK) at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception at the Edwards Family Center.
