Jackie was born on September 10, 1933 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Jack and Margaret Galvin. She is survived by her son, John (Marie) Steele; grandchildren Jace Steele & Casey Steele; nieces, Maxine (Shane) Newton, Raelene (Terry) Chunick; numerous nieces, nephews, great grandnieces, grand nephews and friends. She is survived by her best friend, Georgie Davis who was of great help to her in the last few years.
She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Blake Galvin & Keith Galvin, sisters and brother-in-laws, Velma & Alec Hamel, Daryl & Norm Balzer and close friend Donna Paton.
Jackie grew up on the farm near Viscount, Sk. As the oldest of 5 children she worked hard but she always remembered her childhood fondly.
In 1952 Jackie enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed in Prince Edward Island. She returned to Saskatoon and began a 31 year career at Sargeant’s Auto Electric retiring in 2001.
Sports were a huge part of Jackie’s life, from playing them to watching them if it involved a sport you could count her in. She was a superb athlete and spent many summers on the pitching mound and winters in the curling rink.
The most important thing in her life were her family and friends. She had a heart of gold and if you ever needed help she was the first one to volunteer. Jackie had a gift of making everyone who met her feel that they had been friends forever. Her motto was “there are no strangers, just friends you haven’t met yet.”
She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
The Celebration of her life will be held in Saskatoon on Friday March 8th at Knox United Church at 1pm.
Donations in Jackie's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
