My wife Marg (nee Whitmore), until 1966 when we married, was executive assistant to Dr. Don Moore then Head of Pathology at University Hospital. She knew John well. She urged him to undertake the further studies which he so successfully pursued. I was introduced to John by Marg when I was a resident in the hospital. John was always readily helpful to me in investigating matters of common interest. With his intelligence and academic background he was an outstanding choice as Chief Coroner. We were saddened to learn of his devastating vision loss in retirement. We extend to Marge and his family our sympathy at their loss of such a good and accomplished man.
Regrettably we were committed to an appointment which couldn't be rescheduled by the time we saw the obituary and invitation.

My heart goes out to all of you. Jan and Martin and families were very kind to our family when we first arrived in Saskatoon from Scotland in 1964. And, our dad had great respect for Jan in his role in the Pathology Department where they both worked. Jan contributed much to our community, and province; what a wonderful legacy he has in that and in his family.

Our thoughts go out to you all at this sad time. John was our neighborly neighbor and he always had to check out what was happening on our side, then he would have some observing comments with a big smile. We will miss him.
