Obituary of Betty Ethel Thomarat

The passing of Betty Ethel Thomarat occurred on Sunday, November 11, 2018, surrounded by the love of her family. She is survived by her children, Renny (Arlene) of Estevan, Janette (Stephen) Rose of Cheltenham, United Kingdom, Loris (Rick Siemens) of Saskatoon, Phillip (Charlie May) of Edmonton, grandchildren Carys and Brett (Cara) Clancy of the United Kingdom, great-great-granddaughter Emilia Clancy, step-grandchildren Michael, Christopher, Jody, Jay, Evan and their families as well as numerous step-great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law Gilbert and George Thomarat. She was predeceased by her loving husband Armand (Tommy), her parents Mabel McIndo and Garfield Phillips, brother Jack Phillips and sister-in-law Vera Phillips of Tredegar, Wales. Brother-in-law Maurice, sisters-in-law Helen, Eileen, and Mildred. Betty was born in Treharris, Wales and came to Canada in 1947, to marry Armand after meeting him during World War II. Betty enjoyed writing, needlepoint, knitting and crochet and was an avid reader. She also worked for many years at the University of Saskatchewan. Betty and Armand both loved their cottages at Emma and Turtle Lake and spending time outdoors with friends and family. Betty will be missed and remembered by her family and many friends for her sense of humour and compassion. A Prayer Vigil will take place on Friday, November 16, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held to celebrate Betty's life on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. Both services will take place at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Co-Cathedral, Saskatoon. A private family interment and Committal Rite will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Soldiers Field beside her husband Armand at a later date. Betty and her family would like to thank her neighbours, the Sherbrooke Community Centre Day Program, the CNIB, the Saskatoon Public Library Outreach Program, the Nurses and Care Aides of Saskatoon Homecare (CPAS) and her many friends for their help and support.
