Terrance Edwin Wayne Rugg passed away surrounded by love at 5:20 am on Friday, October 19, 2018 at St. Paul’s hospice at the age of 73.
He is survived by his loving wife, Natalia, his daughters Carla Rugg (Julian Lengauer), and Teresa Waldal (Tony) and grandson Michael: siblings Dennis Rugg, Connie Jump (Stuart), and Murray Rugg (Michelle Lan); Iris Poncelet (Tony), and Allen Carlos (Paula) as well as numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dad was born in Saskatoon, eldest son to Frank and Ann Rugg and grew up in Colonsay. He earned his Vocational Agriculture diploma in 1966 and married the love of his life on October 15, 1966. They moved to Kitimat, BC where he worked for Alcan. Sadly, Frank passed away on March 31, 1967 so Terry and Natalia moved back to the prairies. Terry worked at the Allan Potash mine earning his Interprovincial Journeyman Electrician papers. In 1976, Terry was hired by Sask Power so the family moved to Clavet where they lived until 1986. He was Clavet Fire chief and proudly coached Teresa’s softball team. Mom and Dad moved to an acreage north of Martinsville in 1997. In 2006 Mom and Dad realized that they wanted to be closer to family and long-time friends so they moved to an acreage near St. Denis. As his health declined, they decided to move into a condo in Saskatoon 2 years ago.
Terry’s life was woven with music. He learned piano as a youth and quickly moved to the drums and joined his father’s band - The Colonsay Silver Star Orchestra. Over the years he played with groups such as: The Flamingos, The Decades and many other bands, retiring from music in 1988. To keep busy, Terry completed the Labour Studies program through the College of Commerce (U of S) in 1992.
Dad had many interests including music, classic cars, fishing, curling, collecting pretty much anything, puttering around the yard, and visiting with his many friends. He was a member of the Antique Auto Club and the Western Development Museum. You could always count on Terry for his unique sense of humour, a kind word at any function, and to support local causes.
The family thanks the many health care professionals that cared for Dad over the years, especially over the past weeks. We are blessed to have so many compassionate people able to provide care and support.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, October 25 at 1:30 pm. at the Colonsay Hall. Luncheon to follow. Interment at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, be kind and please give generously to the charity of your choice.
