Obituary of Emily Birban
BIRBAN, Emily
1921-2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our mother and grandmother, Emily Birban. God very gently and peacefully took her home on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018 at Luther Personal Care Home.
Left to cherish Emily’s memory and celebrate her life are her daughter Marge Parchewsky; granddaughters Kerry (Bob) Potter and Charita (Ken) O’Hashi; two sisters, Josie Prytula and Kaye Matusko; two brothers, Mike (Betty) Skwarok and Nick (Cecilia) Skwarok; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Emily was predeceased by her husband Steve and infant daughter Natalie; her parents Anton and Helen (Michaleci) Skwarok; five sisters, Ann Schwartz, Polly Prytula, Fylis Seniuk, Julie Skwarok and Marie Montan; two brothers, Peter and Joe Skwarok; five brother-in-laws, Nick Prytula, Tom Prytula, Wes Montan, Ron Schwartz and Larry Matusko; and son-in-law Lawrence Parchewsky.
Emily was born at St. Julien, SK. on May 17, 1921 and grew up in Mayfair, SK. She left home three months short of her fifteenth birthday to do housework in Prince Albert, SK. and later worked at Princess Café. Emily married Steve Birban in 1939. Dad worked for the C.N.R. so they moved a lot. They lived in Davis, Henribourg, Alticane, Sandwith, Hatherleigh, Bruno, Parkside, Marcelin and Hafford. In 1969 they moved to Saskatoon when dad retired. Mom worked with dad in janitorial work at Market Mall and the Co-op on 33rd Street. Emily also worked at Tiffaney’s Restaurant until she retired.
Church was very important to Emily. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for many years and participated in their activities whenever she was able to. In her younger years, Emily loved to do needle work, embroidery, crochet and knitting. She loved working in her garden and tending to her houseplants, especially the African Violets.
The family would like to thank all the staff on 2nd floor at Luther Personal Care Home for their excellent, loving care that they gave Emily. It was greatly appreciated.
