Rose Juba

Obituary of Rose Ethel Juba

JUBA, Rose Ethel February 8, 1927 - September 7, 2018 When you're born on a dirt farm near a small town called Willowbrook just ahead of the Great Depression, you learn things about life and you embrace certain values. You learn to plant a garden, to prepare a meal (including the world's finest perogies) and, as one of nine kids, to help take care of a family. You learn to "make do" and to save before you spend. You appreciate the rewards that come from hard work and recognize that sometimes life is not fair. But above all, you learn that tough times pass, better times follow and that family and friends will be there through it all. We will remember that last part this week. Rose carried those lessons through her marriage to Jim Juba in 1945 and his passing in 2006. They shaped her life at every significant stop: from the farm to raising five kids in a tiny house in Moose Jaw and then in a little bigger house in Saskatoon, and, for the past 15 years, to her community at the Ilarion Residence. She was happiest when with family and friends, at holiday dinners, playing cards or doing word puzzles, watching the Riders on TV or rooting for "any Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup." Although Rose passed away at 91 years of age on September 7, 2018, the lessons of her life will live on through her children: Brian of St. Paul, Minnesota; Elaine Hnatyshyn (David) of Saskatoon; Jim (Christine) of Kelowna; Janice Fawdry (Glenn) of Kelowna; and Ken (Susan) of Saskatoon. Later in life, she found her greatest happiness in time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their partners: Jason and Katie Juba (Zoey and Luke) of Sydney, Australia; Dan Hnatyshyn and Annette Klein (Olivia and Emily) of Calgary; Adam Hnatyshyn and Shaina Goluboff (Sawyer) of Saskatoon; Jeffrey Bourne and Sarah Lapp of Kelowna; Justin and Brianna Bourne (Charlie) of Toronto; Katie Juba and Mike Grozell of Saskatoon; and Jennifer Juba of Berlin, Germany. Rose was predeceased by her husband, Jim; her parents Harry and Ann; and her siblings Nellie, Frances, Bertha, Fred and Mildred. She will be missed by her twin sister Sharon of St. Andrews, N.B.; sister Elsie of Santa Rosa, CA; and brother Stan of Vancouver. Rose took great pleasure in her relationships with a number of friends, including Sandra, Jenny, Jo, Eleny, Inga and Les; with the members of the UCWL at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church; and with her neighbours, table-mates and staff at the Ilarion. Our family wants to extend a special thank you to all the people who brought happiness to Rose and shared in her life. We will celebrate her life with a private service on September 12 and encourage you to find an extra hour that day to call your mom or spend time with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, The Salvation Army, the Saskatoon Community Foundation or a community organization that is special to your family.
