Obituary of Karen Elizabeth Taylor

Karen Elizabeth Taylor of Saskatoon, SK passed away peacefully on September 2, 2018. Karen was born July 6, 1957 in Ottawa, ON to Norman and Ruth (nee Trevoy) Taylor, the third of four children. The family moved from High Falls, PQ to Saskatoon when Karen was ten months old. Karen attended John Dolan School and then Walter Murray Collegiate. She spent most of her working life as a volunteer in a number of elementary schools in Saskatoon. In later years, Karen was employed at Cosmopolitan Industries. Karen was predeceased by her mother in 1999 and her father in 2003. Following her mother’s death she moved to a group home, and then, when her health began to decline, to Kinsmen Manor. She is survived by her siblings, David of Waterloo, Joan (John) Irwin of Ottawa, and Donna (David) Bucsis of Yorkton; nieces and nephews, Christine Irwin of Ottawa, Erica (James Harwood) Yaholnitsky of Calgary, Alexander Yaholnitsky of Saskatoon, Hilary Yaholnitsky of Saskatoon, Raymond (Jayla) Bucsis of Yorkton, Amanda (Jonathan) Wilde of Prince Albert, and Katelyn (Jordan) Altrogge of Regina; along with other extended family members and friends. Karen was a kind, loving and strong-willed individual who will be missed by all who knew her. Karen was born with Down Syndrome, but exceeded all expectations in terms of her accomplishments. Her determination and perseverance were an inspiration. Karen was a very social person who took great pride in remembering the birthdays of all of her friends and relatives (and quite frankly, many mere acquaintances) and acknowledging the event with a card. She enjoyed being a part of the fellowship at First Baptist Church. The family extends its appreciation to the church and to the staff of Elmwood Residences for the love and care they provided to Karen. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Saskatoon Funeral Home (338 - 4th Avenue North) on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 10, 2018 at 10:30 am at First Baptist Church Saskatoon (401 - 4th Avenue North) with reception to follow at the Edwards Family Centre (333 4th Ave. North).
