Dear Jean,
So many years have passed since we last visited you and Jim in Saskatoon but I remember a lovely lunch. As always with you and Jim, there was great conversation, laughter and the warmth of our many years of friendship in Moose Jaw. Jim was the kindest person and he was also full of fun—I’ll never forget the year he carried a blowtorch when a bunch of you Christmas carollers showed up at our front door. Hilarious!
Fun and smart and kind and always smiling—that’s how I will always remember Jim. I know he lives on in your heart.
God bless all of you. Love, Heather

On behalf of my partner Soot and I, we would like to offer our deepest condolences to the Hutch family on Jim's passing. I would have liked in this note to respectfully refer to Jim as Mr. Hutch but I know he'd not want any part of that. Informal and open hearted, Jim was effortlessly elegant in the most unpretentious way. Although I did not know Jim well, I sensed that the man had class coupled with humility, a rare combination that generated a gravitational pull on those around him towards his personality. I was always somewhat jealous of Dave, Jim's son, for having such a remarkable dad, even though I must have been nearly 50 when I met Jim for the first time. The great consolation was to experience Dave and his dad together, to witness their love and to know the depth of their connection. May Jim rest in peace knowing he was respected by so many people while influencing the lives of those with whom he connected. To Mrs. Hutch, Dave, Jane and the Hutch family: may god bless you, our thoughts are with you.

I first knew of the Hutch family when I visited Druid to see my grandparents, Howard and Agnes Earle, who had a general store and post office in the village. I did not get well acquainted with Jim at that time but knew of his family being highly regarded as kind and hard working people.
In the years that followed Jim and I both graduated from the U of S and both of us became Rotarians. I had the pleasure of visiting with Jim at Rotary meetings and on a few other occasions. I always appreciated his gentle manner and realized that he had an amazing career within his profession and in public service.
Jim enriched my life and I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

It was my pleasure to work with Jim both when he was Deputy Minister of Sask Industry and Commerce and President of SRC. My work with Sask Industry & Commerce opened my eyes to the vibrancy of entrepreneurship in Saskatchewan - support for entrepreneurship was an important part of Jim's work throughout his life. As President of SRC, he was instrumental in opening the Council's road to the support of small and medium businesses in Southeast Asia. I, together with Ravi Maithel and Raj Manek, was pleased to be a part of his travels in Singapore and Malaysia. Also, a great fellow Rotarian! My sincere condolence to Jean and the family.

I was an aspiring entrepreneur when I met Jim at the Rotary Club in Moose Jaw.He was the ideal person to talk to as a young person, for his insights and enthusiasm were contagious. My wife and I got to know Jim and Jean and have kept in touch over the years and had many belly laughs. If you can measure a person's life on a scale of 1-10 Jim was an 11 in all aspects. Our condolences to Jean, Jane and David and there families

Dear Jean and family:
It is with profound sadness that Donna and I learned of Jim’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We know that the many wonderful memories of Jim’s life will bring comfort and hopefully a smile in these difficult days.
It was a very special privilege to follow Jim as CEO of SRC! His success and reputation in leading SRC is legendary. He was respected and revered by all the staff, customers, partners and government. I benefited greatly from Jim’s legacy during my tenure at SRC. He was always accessible and supportive to me and SRC. I always enjoyed and valued my many visits with Jim. He taught me much about business and life. He was a mentor to me and many others at SRC and the Canadian technology and business communities.
We are not able to join you in person for Jim’s life celebration on Thursday as we are currently at our USA home in Arizona. We will be there in spirit to join with the many others who attend to celebrate the life of this true Saskatchewan icon.
Sincerely, Ron and Donna Woodward

My condolences to Jean and the family. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Jim at Parkside View and working with him on the Board. I was impressed with his work and his style. And one day he gave me some advice for a repair at my house, that involved going into his tool area - I thought I had hit the motherlode.
Sincerely,
Margaret Smith
