Obituary of Joseph Norman Ronald Plante
PLANTE, Joseph Norman Ronald “Ron”, age 71, of Saskatoon, SK passed away peacefully at the Dartmouth General Hospital in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on Sunday July 22, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ron was born on December 13, 1946 in Flin Flon, MB, to the late Lionel and Yvette Plante. Ron spent most of his career at HBM&S before retiring in 1999 and splitting the remainder of his working time between Wardrop and AMEC Engineering in Thunder Bay, ON and Saskatoon, SK. Ron was avid golfer and spent many mornings at Phantom Lake Golf Club in Flin Flon. He was an all-around sports fan but he enjoyed hockey and baseball in particular. He was a devoted husband and father and his grandchildren were his greatest joy. He had the opportunity to travel south with his wife Marsha, but their favourite place was Vancouver Island. Ron fully retired in 2015 to care for Marsha who was ailing from cancer herself. After her passing, he remained in Saskatoon until December of 2017 when he headed to Nova Scotia for a Christmas visit. Unfortunately, it was at this time that he was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer. He remained in Dartmouth where he was cared for by son and family until his passing.
Ron is survived by his son Robert Plante (Denise Oickle) of Dartmouth, NS and his daughter Kelli Carr (Trevor) of Thunder Bay, ON as well as his sisters Dianne Plante and Linda Leon (Brian) of Winnipeg, MB. Many nieces, nephews, and in-laws also survive him.
Ron will be greatly missed by his granddaughters Rylee and April Carr and grandson Casey Plante.
Ron was predeceased by his wife Marsha Plante (Switzer) and his brother FO Joseph Adolphe Sylva Plante, RCAF.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Friday August 17th in Saskatoon Funeral Home, 338 4th Ave North, Saskatoon, SK with interment of urn, alongside his wife, in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Saskatoon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation or St. Clements Catholic Parish, 16 Gaston Road, Dartmouth, N.S., B2Y 3W1.
A special Thank You to the healthcare team on the 4th floor DGH for the exceptional care that they provided to Ron and his family for his time there. Also to Fr. Gerald David of St. Clements Parish for taking a stranger into his care and bringing Ron the peace that he was seeking.
