In the first week of grade 9 a teacher asked me who wrote a swear on the chalk board. The teacher had been my teacher in grade 4 and was always so great to me so i volunteered that it was Derek. I wasnt aware of Derek's reputation as a super tough kid. I was freaking out when i found out and I realized I just ratted out the toughest kid in grade 9. One day soon after I found myself in the back of the gym locker room and Derek walks up to me. I was like oh crap...im dead...i said Derek...im sorry i did that...she was my grade 4 teacher and she asked me and I wish now I hadnt said anything. Derek just smiled and said no problem. I always loved him for that....lol. He was always willing to talk and say hi and he was a cool guy. I learned a valuable lesson that day. Really sad to learn he has passed.
