Obituary of John Lypka
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Lypka, age 87, on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. He passed away peacefully with his grandson Kiefer by his side at Extendicare, Saskatoon.
John was born on June 10, 1930 in Abernethy, Saskatchewan. He is survived by his daughter, Wendy Anderson (Dave); daughter, Becky Lypka and children – Jesse and Jolene; son, Ken (Val) – and children Karin, Kiefer Morgan, and Nolan. He was predeceased by his brother, Alex; sister, Mary Machuik.
John met his wife Phyllis in Field, B.C. They were married in 1955 and enjoyed 60 years together. John was an agent for the CP Rail for about 20 years, where he was affectionately known as “Abby”. He and his family later lived in Nelson, B.C. before settling in Balcarres, Saskatchewan, where he and Phyllis owned and operated the Robinson Store. Upon retirement, he and Phyllis made their final move to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In his younger years, “Johnny” loved to play hockey and was an avid curler. As well, he liked shooting pool, card games (Hola, Kaiser and Crib) and playing the clarinet. In his later years, he was an enthusiastic armchair follower of the Riders and the Blue Jays. He also liked solving the Jumble and always enjoyed a cup of coffee or two. He took pride in always being smartly dressed, which usually meant a suit and tie. He was soft spoken, humble and strongly emotionally attached to his family. During his final years, he and Phyllis lived at Ilarion Residence where he received excellent care and made numerous friends.
A special thank you to Ken & Val for their patience, understanding and commitment. Their support, love and care for John allowed him to fully enjoy his final years. A big thank you as well to the staff at both Pineridge care and Extendicare Preston for their attentiveness and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 pm, Saturday, June 16, 2018 at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church (10 Grosvenor Cres.).
